What You Will Do
Reporting to the Manager, Training and Logistical Support, the incumbent is primarily responsible for the delivery and evaluation of training programs to train, educate and/or certify Transit Special Constables, Provincial Offence Officers, Protective Services Guards, Security Attendants, other TTC employee groups, Police and members of the Department of National Defence in accordance with Canadian law, the Commission’s Special Constable contract with the Toronto Police Service Board and the Department’s Code of Conduct to support all aspects of security operations. The incumbent will participate in the co-ordination and development of new training programs and departmental (Corporate) standards (e.g. policies, procedures, rules, routine orders, etc.) and/or review, update or revise existing training programs and standards.
You will participate in the co-ordination, and development of new training programs, activities and departmental (Corporate) standards (e.g. policies, procedures, rules, routine orders, etc.) and/or maintenance of existing training programs and standards to ensure program objectives are met and/or deficiencies are corrected. This involves: conducting research including needs analysis, data collection, external/internal surveys, reviewing policies, procedures, work methods, safe practices, technical/operation manuals, vendor information, legislation and regulatory requirements, and identifying constraints related to the work and facilitating workshops and focus groups, conducting interviews and reviewing group meetings
You will conduct classroom training, practical instruction and presentations to Transit Special Constables, Provincial Offence Officers, Protective Services Guards, Security Attendants, other TTC employee groups, Police and members of the Department of National Defence. This involves: ensuring all training materials, supplies, equipment and location are arranged and prepared in support of the training including procuring training materials, audio visual and instructor needs including key speakers, instructors and subject experts as required, co-ordinating attendance of target audience, assessing employee qualifications and checking to ensure that students have the necessary prerequisite documentation for the training, determining and using the most appropriate training techniques (e.g. lectures, demonstrations, simulations, use of mock-ups, etc.) to achieve goals and objectives of the lesson.
In addition to the above, you will be responsible for treating customers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of customers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within the area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer and perform related duties as assigned.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?
- Must have a community college diploma or certification in the field of Law Enforcement, or the equivalent, combined with several years’ of related experience in a law enforcement/security and training environment.
- Must have or be able to obtain a community college certificate in Adult Education or the applicable law enforcement training certifications.
- Comprehensive knowledge of law enforcement, law enforcement terminology, related processes and the application of policies and procedures;
- Strong working knowledge of the Trespass to Property Act, Liquor Licence Control Act, Mental Health Act, Criminal Code of Canada, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and other municipal, provincial and federal statutes related to the work;
- Sound knowledge of, and the ability to apply, assess, adult education and instructional principles, program design, research methods, development methodologies, testing and evaluation techniques;
- Working knowledge of personal computers and demonstrated proficiency in using computerized applications (Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) and information technology related to the work;
- Ability to effectively deliver a comprehensive range of training programs to diverse groups in classroom and at actual work situations, to large and small groups, and on a one-on-one basis;
- Ability to read, interpret, comprehend and explain complex concepts, technical information, operating procedures, etc.;
- Must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written, including technical writing, communication skills as well as sound judgement and good analytical, problem-solving and decision making skills;
- Possession of a valid non-probationary Province of Ontario class “G” driver’s licence or greater;
- Knowledge of project management concepts and practices and related skills to prioritize and complete duties related to planned and unplanned assignments;
- May be required to use a personal automobile to carry out work assignments and must possess personal automobile insurance coverage.
