As the Nurse Manager, you will play a pivotal role in guiding our exceptional team of professionals. You will oversee managing a 10-bed inpatient unit (with the potential for expansion in the near future) dedicated to providing comprehensive homecare services. While fostering a positive and collaborative work culture, you will ensure our patients receive the highest quality of care, service and support.

How You Will Make an Impact

Reporting to the Director of Men's Centre, the Nurse Manager will be a key member of an interdisciplinary team that promotes recovery, empowerment and improved quality of life to men who are homeless or precariously housed, and who may be struggling with addiction and mental health. The Nurse Manager will ensure that service delivery is executed with an inclusive & non-judgmental lens and that patients are motivated to be engaged in taking an active role in their health literacy.

  • The Nurse Manager at the Transitional Bed Program will adhere to and demonstrate a strong work ethic aligned with the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values, while also observing organizational policies and procedures.
  • The service approach of the Nurse Manager will be dignified, culturally competent, and respectful, while operating within an integrated anti-racist/anti-oppression framework.
  • The Nurse Manager facilitates referrals by collaborating with local hospitals and staff to ensure smooth patient discharge planning and admission to the Transitional Beds Program.
  • The Nurse Manager collaborates to provide quality nursing care by ensuring documentation and collection of data on patients' physical and psycho-social status and communicates that to team members and visiting physicians (who perform rounds twice per week).
  • The Nurse Manager will oversee the coordination of patient care plans, evaluate patient effort to attain goals, and demonstrate fluidity and responsiveness to patient needs.
  • The Nurse Manager will onboard new staff to program-specific policies, complete regular supervision and annual work performance reviews, conduct regular staff meetings and engage in professional development for self and team members.
  • The Nurse Manager will observe all Good Shepherd health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to minimize risk to clients, staff and others as well as to Good Shepherd property.

What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and currently authorized to practice in the province of Ontario with at least 5 years of current clinical practice.
  • Knowledge of current nursing principles, awareness of personal limitations, and strong communication skills (both verbal and non-verbal) are crucial.
  • Able to take and remain current in the following mandatory courses: WHIMIS, CPR
  • Knowledge of biological, physical, and behavioral sciences.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of Hospitality: Responsibility, Availability, Adaptability, Quality and Dignity.
  • Experience with marginalized populations, mental health, and addiction is necessary.
  • Experience with Harm Reduction principles and practices. By integrating a Harm Reduction framework at Good Shepherd, we can decrease barriers to service and better support some of our community's most marginalized members.
  • Recommended training includes Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, and a willingness to participate in educational advancement
  • Being aware of personal limitations and strengths in emotionally sensitive situations, reacting calmly and effectively, and managing stress while caring for patients with various medical conditions and mental health issues.
  • Flexible, and able to work effectively in changing environments.
  • Maintain a welcoming and peaceful atmosphere when interacting with clients, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • To respect and follow the patient's choices and decisions regarding their multiple and often complex needs while providing personalized care and to take a harm reduction approach as needed.
