Our services help seniors stay safe, connected, and live as independently as possible.

Job Summary: The Recreation Therapist Supervisor is responsible for the effective operation and delivery of all recreational programming at various community sites. This includes assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating a variety of innovative recreational, educational, and therapeutic program activities that support optimal individualized care for clients. Additionally, they help build interpersonal relationships and social skills among clients. The Supervisor will work collaboratively with staff and partner agencies to ensure the SPRINT Senior Care philosophy of care is integrated into clients' daily lives.

Service Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight and supervision, and lead direct reports in day-to-day operations, supporting team members to uphold organizational policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the assessment of clients to determine their suitability for program participation.
  • Execute therapeutic programs tailored to meet the specific needs of each client.
  • Manage assessment of clients' physical and social needs to ensure their care plans are effective.
  • Observe, analyze, and document clients' participation, reactions, and progress during programs, modifying treatment plans as needed.
  • Counsel and encourage clients to engage in leisure activities.
  • Collaborate with clients’ treatment teams to plan and evaluate therapy programs.
  • Ensure that clients' activities align with the mission, vision, and objectives of SPRINT Senior Care, adhering to SPRINT Senior Care’s policies and procedures.
  • Conduct therapy sessions aimed at improving clients' mental and physical well-being.
  • Instruct clients in various activities and techniques, such as sports, dance, music, art, or relaxation techniques, tailored to their specific physical or psychological needs.
  • Work with all managers and external service providers involved in clients' care (Supportive Housing, Social Work, and Community Programs) to ensure that personal care plans are in alignment with the care team and family, based on the client’s needs and preferences, and monitor each client's progress concerning their care plan.
  • Work with each client’s circle of care to support a smooth transition to Long Term Care when needed.
  • Manage all client recreational care plans in the client information database.
  • Ensure training objectives and requirements are met while facilitating ongoing training and development for staff, students, and volunteers.
  • Undertake special projects and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Gerontology or similar
  • Member in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (‘TRO’) or Activity Professionals of Ontario (‘APO’) preferred
  • Experience working in a client group environment
  • Experience with supervision preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in assessment, program planning and implementation for seniors and persons with disabilities including cognitive impairments and challenges with mobility.
  • Ability to establish good rapport with staff, clients, and families.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships internally and externally with stakeholders and partnering agencies.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to be adaptable, build trust, provide coaching and mentorship, facilitate change and engage in continuous quality improvement.
  • Excellent decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook, as well as effective use of online tools.
  • Experience working with client databases.
  • Available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
