The Role

Under the supervision of the Accessibility, Diversity & Inclusion (ADI) Coordinator, the Program Facilitator(s) will be responsible for leading and supporting the delivery of the TIME (Together in Movement and Exercise) Program.

The TIME Program is a community-based exercise program designed by physiotherapists for individuals who experience balance or mobility challenges due to conditions such as stroke, acquired brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, or general deconditioning following illness or hospitalization.

Facilitators will assist in creating a safe, encouraging, and inclusive environment where participants can improve their strength, balance, mobility, and confidence through guided physical activity.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support participants through structured TIME Program exercises and routines.
  • Ensure participant safety, supervision, and inclusion throughout each session.
  • Collaborate with the ADI Coordinator, physiotherapists, and other health professionals to maintain program standards and participant progress.
  • Set up and organize the exercise space and required equipment before and after each session.
  • Observe and report participant progress, challenges, or safety concerns to the ADI Coordinator or designated health professional.
  • Provide motivation, encouragement, and adaptive support to ensure participant success and enjoyment.
  • Promote the City’s values of accessibility, inclusion, and community well-being through professional and person-centered practice.
  • Hours of work will vary based on program scheduling and participant needs. This position may include daytime hours between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on designated program days.

Qualifications

  • Considerable experience and knowledge in working with individuals with physical and/or cognitive disabilities.
  • Group Fitness Instructor certification (CSEP, CCAA, canfitpro, or equivalent
  • Educational background in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, Physiotherapy Assistant, Occupational Therapy Assistant, or a related health or human services field is considered an asset.
  • Must hold valid First Aid/CPR and AED certification.
  • HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development certification is considered an asset.
  • Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check (dated no longer than six months prior to hire) are required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to motivate and support participants in a group setting.
  • Demonstrated patience, empathy, and adaptability when supporting individuals with mobility or balance challenges.

Previous experience in rehabilitation, adapted physical activity, or inclusion-based fitness programming is considered an asset. If you are interested and believe you have the skills we are looking for, please forward your resume and cover letter as soon as possible.
