Position Description

A temporary part time (0.8312) FTE Band and Music Prep Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027. The assignment will be at Margaret Ma Murray Community School.

Please note that part-time teachers may be required to attend Pro-D or other non- instructional days on days when they are not regularly scheduled to work.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Committed to a co-planning model within a learning "pod" of three to four divisions
  • Willingness to share space and resources in a learning "pod" of three to fur divisions within a flexible learning space environment
  • Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects at the elementary years level
  • Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills
  • Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning. Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging
  • Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn
  • Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning
  • Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro-active and maintain student dignity
  • Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity
  • Ability to develop students technique for playing brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments and cover appropriate band literature styles for school and competitive performance
  • Design and implement a wide variety of appropriate instructional activities for students with varying abilities and talents
  • Evaluate student achievement and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Teach a variety of vastly different skills on different instruments simultaneously
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining a large inventory of equipment
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining a large inventory of instructional materials and music library
  • Plan logistics and transportation for band events (both in and out of district)
  • Plan and organize concerts and other public performances
  • Supervise large groups of students in activities outside of school hours and off campus
  • Manage fundraising events

The Distinct Nature of Teaching and Learning at Margaret Ma Murray Community School

Margaret Ma Murray Community School was designed and built to facilitate a distinct learning environment. This process involved visitations to schools around the country, community consultation meetings and several design meetings with a cross-section of staff from around the district. These conversations on learning and learning spaces helped shape the architecture of the school.

  • Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate)

Compensation

  • $2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
  • $3,035 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $65,397 - $111,952
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
