NVIT anticipates a need for one Indigenous Languages Community Liaison and Instructional Coordinator (CLIC) at the Merritt campus and invites applications from qualified candidates. This will be a full-time support staff position that will start as soon as a suitable candidate is found.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Dean, this position organizes and coordinates the instructional interactions between faculty, students and community stakeholders that lie at the heart of the Indigenous Languages. These include classroom assistance, course prep, and special events, all of which will regularly engage community members and institutions. Key contributors supported by the CLIC include first language speaking mentors, community organizations partnered with the program, participating and alumni students, and academic and other NVIT staff. The position assists transition of students from NVIT to UBC, and works collaboratively with associated UBC faculty/staff in managing student supports.

  • Relevant post-secondary diploma with a minimum of one year of experience working in the BC public post-secondary system, equivalent education and experience may be considered.
  • Prior knowledge of Indigenous languages supported by NVIT, including Nłeʔkepmx, Secwepemctsín, Nsyilxcən, and Stat̓l̓imc.
  • Knowledge of the Language Fluency Framework and its transferability from NVIT to UBC.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities or in Indigenous language revitalization initiatives is an asset.
  • Extensive computer systems experience, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in educational settings.
  • Ability to support faculty and students with classroom management
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to analyze, process, and disseminate information through diverse mediums.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality service for students, the public, and the NVIT community.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to multi-task, establish work priorities, and perform in a high-volume, detail-oriented environment with attention to accuracy and timelines.
  • Understanding of Canada’s colonial history and its impacts on Indigenous peoples, cultures, and ways of knowing.
  • Practice from a holistic, culturally safe, and trauma-informed lens.
  • Knowledge of and appreciation for Indigenous languages, cultures, and lived experiences.
  • Proven ability to build collaborative working relationships to achieve outcomes in the best interest of students and NVIT.
