About the role

Optix is looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to own the infrastructure and platform foundation that our engineering team builds on. We are evolving our platform from a legacy deployment model into a modern, observable, and resilient system and this role is at the centre of that work. You will own our AWS infrastructure, build and maintain our CI/CD pipelines, lead our move to a three-tier environment model, and establish the on-call and incident response practices that give the team confidence in production. Beyond infrastructure, you will be a key voice in our technical debt strategy, helping us reason about package and dependency health, legacy system migrations, and the sequencing of platform modernization initiatives. Partnering closely with our Engineering Lead and full-stack engineers, you will build the foundation that lets the team ship with confidence through reliable environments, clean pipelines, and clear visibility into what's running in production. Note: This is a hybrid opportunity for someone based in Vancouver, BC (60% in our beautiful waterfront Gastown office, 40% from home).

What You'll Do

Own and evolve our AWS infrastructure for reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency Build and maintain our CI/CD pipelines, evolving from continuous deployment toward a QA-gated continuous delivery model Lead the implementation of a three-tier environment model: per-branch Integration environments, a stable Staging environment that mirrors production, and a structured Production deployment process. Establish and own our observability stack including monitoring, alerting, runbooks, and on-call rotation Define and lead incident response processes, including retrospectives and resolution tracking Contribute to our technical debt strategy inlcuding package and dependency audits, legacy system assessment, and sequencing of modernization initiatives Work AI-first in day-to-day execution, leveraging AI tools to improve speed, quality, and operational effectiveness Support engineering teams with environment-related needs across the development lifecycle Participate in sprint rituals and contribute to a collaborative team environment Contribute to a team culture of empathy and mutual support, lifting each other to reach new heights Required skills and experience 6+ years of platform, infrastructure, or DevOps engineering experience Deep AWS expertise across compute, networking, storage, and security Proven CI/CD pipeline ownership in a multi-repo environment using tools such as GitLab CI, Bitbucket Pipelines, and (nice to have) Vercel Hands-on experience with container orchestration using ECS or Kubernetes Experience building and maintaining multi-tier environment models (Integration, Staging, and Production) with clear separation between development, validation, and live environments.

Hands-on experience with observability tooling and on-call incident management

Ability to read and reason across application codebases in multiple languages Strong documentation habits that leave things clearer than you found them Comfort with Git, Linux, Docker and containerization, and infrastructure as code Clear communicator who can translate infrastructure decisions for engineering and leadership audiences Legacy modernization experience with API migrations, frontend upgrades, dependency lifecycle (nice to have) PHP/Laravel and Vue.js familiarity (nice to have) We take care of our teammates This is a unique opportunity to join a rapidly growing technology startup.
