##Opportunity
MacEwan University is seeking an International Student Recruitment Specialist for a full-time 12-month replacement term opportunity with the Office of the University Registrar.
The International Student Recruitment Specialist provides support to the Supervisor, International Student Recruitment in achieving MacEwan University’s international student enrolment targets. You will liaise with high school counsellors, educational agencies, Canadian high commissions, and other external stakeholders in addition to advising prospective students and their families in recruitment efforts. Event preparation and participation as well as international travel are required.
Key responsibilities include:
- Recruiting international students through various channels including activities such as webinars, high school visits, education fairs and agent/guidance counsellor events virtually or abroad;
- Developing and carrying out plans for recruitment events and associated travel for participation within assigned budgets; plans include arranging meetings, materials, additional event coordination, training, international and domestic travel and accommodation, etc.;
- Providing detailed event/trip reports and analysis of efforts in assigned markets, including key reporting components, to the Supervisor by bi-annual deadlines;
- Providing annual and ad hoc training; troubleshooting application issues; requesting and monitoring third-party representation at recruitment events;
- Overseeing and providing support to in-country representatives and guiding their work in promoting the university within a specified region;
- Conducting regular meetings; providing bi-annual reports regarding work conducted and escalating any performance concerns to the Supervisor;
- Advising and supporting prospective international students, families, and agencies through the admission process. Meeting individually to discuss goals, study options, support services, program requirements, and processes with cross-cultural understanding of expectations;
- Responding to prospective international student and agent enquiries within a determined response time with accurate information and best recommended paths to admission;
- Liaising with relevant stakeholders on support and connections for international recruitment opportunities (e.g. Alumni Office, domestic recruitment, faculty champions, community groups, etc.); and
- Contributing information or content related to recruitment for social media release or paid advertising, including content and posts on platforms used in other countries.
####Skills
You will have:
- A demonstrated ability to communicate with non-native English speakers from diverse backgrounds through oral and written mediums. Additional language(s) other than English, would be considered an asset (Spanish and Portuguese language abilities would be considered an asset);
- Flexibility in your approach to problem solving under pressure;
- A high degree of self-sufficiency to fulfill tasks independently as well as with teams;
- A demonstrated ability of event planning, implementation, and public speaking;
- Intermediate level computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PeopleSoft Campus Solutions and queries;
- A demonstrated ability to organize, analyse, and communicate data and statistics;
- High organization, excellent time-management and event/project management skills;
- A high level of professionalism in all interactions;
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills;
- Strong initiative and the ability to work independently as well as with team;
- Digital communication platform competencies to navigate and present (Webex, Zoom, gotoWebinar, etc.); and
- Experience with aspects of social media (including Facebook, Twitter/X, WhatsApp, Weibo, etc.).
####Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
- Formal education or professional development training in cross-cultural competencies and communication.
- If requested, the specialist must be willing to pursue licensing by the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC).
- A minimum of 1 year of advising or experience in delivering information to students, preferably at the post-secondary institution with degree programming.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience with international student recruitment for post-secondary institutions.
- Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds; experience working with international recruitment agents would be considered an asset.
- Personal cross-cultural experience; studying or working abroad would be considered an asset.
- Experience planning and hosting events in countries where English is not the primary language.
- Experience working with international student recruitment agencies.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

- This position requires international travel, working primarily in Central and South America.
