About the job
In this position, you will:
- manage, undertake and administer a variety of planning, preliminary and / or detailed-design highway improvement projects, delivered by both in-house and outsourced resources
- liaise and work with ministry staff, senior management, internal stakeholders, external agencies, municipalities, developers, consultants and the public
- lead / coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams
- direct and supervise assigned staff.
- acquire, administer and evaluate engineering service providers.
- lead public consultation programs.
- provide engineering and technical advice and direction to design staff, management, consultants and construction staff
- protect ministry interests on land development proposals adjacent to transportation corridors
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
- You are a Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
- The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G driver's licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that s/he has a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
Technical Knowledge:
You have:
- thorough knowledge of theories, principles and practices of civil engineering related to highway engineering
- working knowledge of related fields including geotechnical, pavement design, structural, drainage, surveys, electrical, traffic, construction practices
Project Management and Leadership Skills:
You have:
- project management skills to manage projects, including acquisition and management of consultants.
- well-developed leadership skills to assign and schedule work
- the ability to prioritize and execute tasks at moment's notice to support stakeholder correspondence and area office service requests.
Interpersonal, Relationship-Building and Communication Skills:
You have:
- proven oral and written communications skills to write reports and present proposals, recommendations and provide expert evidence.
- proven effective interpersonal and relationship management skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, senior officials and the public.
Analytical, Problem-Solving and Decision-Making Skills:
You have:
- sound analytical skills and good judgement to assess and recommend solutions to problems in terms of applicable legislation, engineering quality, economic benefit and environmental impact.
- demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills
