About The Role
The Systems Engineer at GE Vernova plays a critical role in designing, developing, and testing instrumentation and control (I&C) systems that are integral to the safe and efficient operation of the BWRX-300 Small Module Reactor. This position requires a highly skilled professional capable of managing complex system integration activities, requirements management, and technical problem solving. The role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that safety-critical functions are designed, verified, and validated according to strict industry standards. The engineer will be responsible for overseeing system performance, managing requirements flow-down, and ensuring configuration control throughout the product lifecycle. This position offers the opportunity to work on innovative nuclear reactor technology, contributing to the development of safe, reliable, and sustainable energy solutions for the future.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering from an accredited university or college. A minimum of six years of experience in systems engineering within highly regulated industries is required, along with at least two years of experience in performing independent or team-based system design reviews, requirements management, and verification activities. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, technical expertise, and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly. Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree in a related field, experience in instrumentation and controls systems, nuclear system engineering, and familiarity with small modular reactor designs. Knowledge of industry best practices, system level thinking, and experience with project design methods from requirements definition through testing are highly valued.
Responsibilities
Conduct component and product integration activities, ensuring seamless performance across multiple systems and components. Manage and trace product and system requirements, specifications, and flow-down processes to ensure compliance and traceability. Drive validation and verification activities, including system-level testing, to confirm that designs meet all safety and performance standards. Define detailed product requirements for modules, components, subcontractors, and partner teams, ensuring clear communication and alignment. Coordinate interfaces between various components and oversee their integration during development and testing phases. Lead trade studies and risk assessments, focusing on critical-to-quality (CTQ) factors to optimize system performance and reliability. Maintain overall product configuration management and control systems to track changes and ensure consistency. Supervise and develop team members, including staffing, performance evaluations, and professional development initiatives. Leverage technical expertise and analytical skills to develop innovative solutions, improve processes, and ensure adherence to industry standards. Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including requirements management, design, testing, and manufacturing, to achieve project goals. Act as a resource for less experienced colleagues, providing guidance and mentorship in technical and project management aspects. Lead small projects with manageable risks, ensuring timely delivery and quality outcomes. Communicate technical information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, fostering team consensus and understanding.
