Commitment:

· 40 hours a week (on-site)

· Daytime, evenings and weekends will be required.

· Flexibility to teach group fitness, personal train and support front-facing team as needed.

Reports to: Core Business Director

Role:

The Fitness & Lifestyle Manager is a hands-on operational leader responsible for bringing Vivo’s mission, vision, values, and strategic goals to life through effective management of the Fitness Centre, Group Fitness, and Personal Training programs for all ages and abilities.

This role combines day-to-day operational oversight with practical leadership, ensuring offerings run efficiently, employees are supported and developed, and members and guests enjoy safe, inclusive, accessible, high-quality, and engaging experiences.

You will develop and execute department plans by translating organizational priorities into action - leading staff, optimizing resources, maintaining facility excellence, and ensuring that every fitness touchpoint reflects Vivo’s mission to raise healthier generations.

Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership

· Oversee daily operations of all fitness environments, ensuring a safe, clean, inclusive, accessible, and welcoming space for guests and staff.

· Oversee scheduling, payroll, attendance, and resource allocation to meet operational needs and customer demand.

· Monitor facility conditions, coordinate maintenance and repairs to ensure accuracy of service and inspection records.

· Ensure compliance with safety protocols, certifications, and risk management policies.

· Conduct regular walk-throughs and operational checklists to ensure the facility and team meet quality standards.

· Lead monthly safety meetings, inspections, and follow-up on corrective actions.

· Act as the main contact for vendors, contractors, and maintenance providers.

People Management & Team Development

· Provide hands-on leadership and daily support to the Fitness Coordinators, Group Fitness Instructors, personal trainers, and fitness consultant teams.

· Oversee the recruitment, training, scheduling, and coaching of the teams to deliver exceptional customer experiences and achieve operational targets.

· Deliver ongoing performance management through feedback, coaching, and recognition.

· Promote a culture of inclusion, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

· Support and mentor team members to strengthen leadership capacity and professional growth.

· Step in to teach classes, provide personal training, or cover front-line shifts when required to ensure business continuity.

Program & Service Delivery & Execution

· Implement and operationalize fitness programs aligned with Vivo’s strategic direction and community needs.

· Evaluate program participation, customer satisfaction, and outcomes; make improvements and adjustments based on feedback and data.

· Support innovation and the development of new fitness offerings that align with Vivo’s wellness framework.

· Ensure consistent program quality and adherence to industry standards.

· Collaborate with the other operational managers to integrate fitness offerings with community and recreation initiatives.

Business Management & Reporting

· Manage the fitness department budget, tracking revenues, expenses, and cost recovery targets.

· Monitor key operational metrics and KPIs (participation, retention, sales, equipment usage) and report regularly to the Core Business Director.

· Maintain accurate inventory and order supplies and equipment as needed.

· Support grant applications and funding opportunities related to fitness and wellbeing.

· Contribute to annual business planning and operational goal setting.

Customer & Community Engagement

· Build strong relationships with members, guests, and community partners to enhance engagement, participation and satisfaction.

· Engage with guests daily to understand their needs and gather feedback.

· Address customer concerns promptly and professionally.

· Ensure front-line employees consistently deliver high-quality, personalized service.

· Represent Vivo at community events and support outreach initiatives that promote physical literacy and active living.

Qualifications & Experience

· Post-secondary diploma or degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Recreation Management, or related field.

· 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience in a fitness, recreation, or wellness environment.

· 2+ years of hands-on experience as a personal trainer or group fitness instructor.

· Experience with budgeting, scheduling, and operational coordination in a fitness or recreation setting.

· Nationally recognized Personal Training Certification (ACE, AFLCA, Canfit Pro, CSEP-CPT, NASM, etc.).

· Group Fitness Certification (MOSSA, AFLCA, Canfit Pro, CSEP-CPT, etc.).

· Strong operational and administrative skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and facility management software (e.g., Avocado).

· Proven ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.

· Knowledge of physical literacy, customer experience design, and health and safety best practices.

Additional Requirements

· Valid Police Information Check (Vulnerable Sector) within the last 3 months.

· Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C/AED certification.

· Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

· Ability to work in an active, high-traffic environment.
