Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. Job Overview
The Advanced Analytics Exploration team consists of actuarial analysts and machine learning engineers who build and deploy predictive models that support decision-making across the enterprise, helping Wawanesa deliver smarter, faster, and more impactful solutions.
The Machine Learning Engineer role is responsible for solving business problems and discovering business insights using structured and unstructured data, statistics, visualization and advanced machine learning techniques, and communicating findings of analysis to technical and business audiences.
You’ll work closely with teams across the organization including pricing, reserving, claims, and underwriting to solve diverse business problems using advanced techniques such as machine learning and large language models.
Job Responsibilities
- Understand and translate business and functional needs into scalable machine learning and AI modelling workflows.
- Perform exploratory analysis techniques to generate insights for business units and senior leadership.
- Collaborate with Machine Learning Operations and other Technology teams to implement embeddable workflows for use in production environments.
- Conduct independent research with new tools, algorithms and techniques in machine learning/AI and work to implement them in the organization.
- Ensures adherence to performance standards and compliance to data security and model governance requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in software engineering, data science or computer science or a related quantitative field [or equivalent work experience] is required. An advanced degree in a related quantitative field is preferred.
- Understanding of probability and statistical models.
- Proficiency in machine learning algorithms and large language models.
- Experience in code reproducibility and version control.
- Strong programming skills with Python and SQL.
- Advanced oral and written communication skills to convey complex terminology and concepts into understandable terms for stakeholders.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams and stakeholders, including actuarial, analytical, and operations groups.
- Previous experience with AWS and Power BI is considered an asset.
