About the role

Job Title: Rehabilitation Worker (evening)

Number of Position(s): One (1)

Job Type: Full-time unionized position (35 hours/week: Monday to Friday: 3:30pm-10:30pm)

Language Requirement: English required.

Reports to: Program Manager

Job Summary:
Responsible for shifts in the applicable transitional rehabilitation housing program to ensure the provision of client-centered support and rehabilitation in a residential setting. The rehabilitation worker will provide supportive counseling and/or crisis intervention to clients/tenants whenever necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Science or related field
  • Two years of experience working with adults recovering from mental health issues.
  • One year of experience working in a residential setting.
  • Training in CPR, CPI, ASIST, Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Concurrent Disorders, ASL and LSQ is an asset.

Duties Summary:

  • Provide supportive counseling and/or crisis intervention to clients/tenants.
  • Provide individual support and teaching or assisting with life skills, such as cleaning, cooking, personal and sleep hygiene as needed.
  • Provide group support when needed.
  • Provide ON CALL coverage.
  • Complete documentation as required in logbook, client files, incident reports, etc.
  • Other duties may be assigned by the Program Manager.

  • Demonstrates specific knowledge of health issues and of social problems associated with the impact of mental illness.
  • Demonstrates knowledge about natural sleep cycles, impact of caffeine, exercise etc. on sleep patterns.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of mediation, conflict resolution and problem solving.
  • Demonstrates understanding of:
  • Crisis intervention and prevention.
  • Suicide prevention and intervention.

Skills, Ability to:

  • Establish supportive relationships with individuals and groups.
  • Relate to clients using a strengths based, client-centered approach.
  • Establish a supportive and respectful group living environment.
  • Provide support through mediation, conflict resolution, and problem solving and crisis intervention.
  • Teach techniques to establish good sleep habits.
  • Set firm, reasonable boundaries and limits.

Pre-Hiring Requirements:

  • Academic certificates
  • Criminal reference check (Vulnerable Sector Screening)
  • Eligibility to work in Canada
  • Proof that the successful candidate has received both doses of a Health Canada approved COVID 19 vaccine at least 14 days before the first day of work, subject always to Ottawa Salus’ duty to accommodate under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
