HCOS has an opening for an Academic Advisor. This is a part-time, remote or on-site position , working 24 hours per week. The primary purpose of this position is to intake and support Innovations students in grades 8 through 12 as they work towards graduation and preparation for post secondary years.
Duties and Responsibilities
Plan and contribute towards the success of the division, in conjunction with the Innovations administration
Foster and maintain positive relationships between parents, students, teachers and learning supports staff as well as within school-wide, regional and divisional teams
Communicate Innovations program information regularly to students and families
Work with the Registrar’s office to interview prospective families and enroll Innovations Program students Attend RTI meetings to monitor students and make recommendations about student movement
Oversee the educational plans of HCOS students in their region from Grade 8/9 (Crew) or grade 10 through to Graduation including advising and enrolling students in courses
Collaborate with CREW teaching teams and other advisors to deliver and assess Career 8 and 9 for CREW Students
Oversee and manage support of Learning Services students in collaboration with the Inclusive Education Academic Advisor team
Monitor overall grad program student progress according to the Innovations Advising calendar
Support and make referrals for students in need of Learning Services in collaboration with an IE AA.
Support K,P,Q,R designated students in conjunction with the IE AA team.
Attend Student at Risk Team (SRT) meetings as applicable.
Qualifications
Demonstrates a commitment to, and a lifestyle reflective of, the KCCS Foundational Beliefs
BC certified teacher (preferred) familiar with the BC Graduation program
Knowledge of HCOS systems including Brightspace and Encom
Proficiency with technology skills and able to work in an online environment: Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, etc.
Ability to be discreet and handle confidential information sensitively
Flexible attitude towards innovation and change
Able to adapt to varied workload throughout the school year
Proven professional time management and communication skills
Conflict management skills
Organized, manager of details, strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Research and networking skills
Some travel required (RenewEd, regional teacher meetings, Innovations fall retreat, School Leadership Retreat, Graduation)
If based off-site, must be regularly and reliably available via phone or Zoom during regular business hours
What we offer
Wage range: $40.42 – $43.35/hour
24 hours per week (averaged over 12-month period)
Flexible hours of work within standard business hours Pacific Time
May work remotely or on-site at Kelowna offices
