Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Public Safety and Risk Management, the Heath and Safety Coordinator will work to oversee all aspects of health and safety training, education and policy development across the college. They will be responsible for the creation, implementation, and continuous improvement of comprehensive health and safety programs and assisting the Public Safety department with emergency management procedures. This role includes the development and maintenance of all health and safety manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and related policies to ensure alignment with legislative and regulatory requirements. The Health and Safety advisor designs, delivers and tracks mandatory and specialized training programs to ensure that all staff, contractors and stakeholders are properly equipped to work safely and meet compliance standards. This role also collaborates with departments to assess risk, perform safety audits, investigate incidents and recommend corrective actions. This role is also an active member of the JHSC .

Minimum level of formal education required for the position
2 year diploma or equivalent education
Specific course(s), certification, qualification, formal training or accreditation required for the position
Additional Requirements
Thorough knowledge of the OHS , Fire Code and related legislation
A valid Ontario driver’s license
Strong computer skills and proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to draft correspondence, reports, briefings and recommendations
Planning and organizational skills along with ability to prioritize.
CPR and First Aid Certificate would be an asset
JHSC certification and/or specific H&S training would be an asset
Field(s) of Study
2-Year diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a directly related program such as Emergency and Safety Management and/or a diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
Working towards or completion of Health and Safety designation an asset
Experience
Typical number of years of experience, in addition to the necessary education level, required to perform the responsibilities of the position
Minimum of two (2) years
Type of Experience
Strong knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g, Occupational Health and Safety Act, ire Code, Building Code, etc.)
Preferred work experience in post-secondary education sector or broader education sector
Coordinating emergency response to incidents
Experience providing guidance and advice on a range of health and safety matters
Previous experience with Joint Union/Management Health and Safety Committees, or similar
Knowledge of risk assessment procedures and JHSC workplace inspections
2 years’ experience in a similar or related Health and Safety position
