What’s the job:

The role of the Accounting Manager is to lead and manage a team largely responsible for the timely preparation and delivery of monthly and quarterly financial reports. The Accounting Manager will provide oversight and guidance to their team to ensure reporting dimensions are accurately reflected and that there is a systematic and collaborative process developed with the Manager, Accounting Operations to achieve alignment. This role will also be counted upon to identify areas for improvement and leading optimization initiatives. The Accounting Manager also provides support to the finance management team in achieving strategic financial and commercial objectives of the group of businesses.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Responsible for preparing/reviewing high quality financial statements for TFG and TFund, including variance analysis, within agreed timeline
  • Prepare external reporting packages including covenants and quarterly financial statements
  • Review journal entries, GL account reconciliations and bank reconciliations and ensuring accounts are reconciled and resolved prior to month end close
  • Identify, analyze, research and resolve accounting issues
  • Managing and mentoring the financial reporting team members, including performance evaluations and recruitment
  • Obtain thorough knowledge of the group of companies’ business
  • Work in tandem with other internal teams to support the needs of the group of companies
  • Provide valuable advice and recommendation towards accounting procedures, standards and internal controls
  • Maintain the ERP and other reporting systems/software
  • Review working papers for accuracy and ensure transactions are accounted for in accordance with GAAP
  • Assist with the year end audit process, liaise with external auditors and ensure the annual audits are completed within deadlines
  • Assist with the preparation, reporting, and review of operating budgets for all companies
  • Recommend improvements to increase reporting efficiency and to automate functions
  • Provide research and analysis in support of continuous process improvement and other strategic initiatives
  • Prepare ad-hoc reports, other tasks and special projects, as required

Performance Objectives

  • Perform within broad guidelines requiring considerable judgement and initiative to plan and implement work assignments
  • Planning and execution of work that requires coordination including, financial reporting, budgeting and cash management
  • Results are internally focused and within the context of the CFO’s and business units’ strategic and operating objectives
  • Flexible and able to collaborate with other subject matter experts to develop solutions to support business and growth plans
  • Advanced ability to manage and prioritize a complex workload while adhering to performance goals
  • Strong leadership and problem solving skills

What you bring:

  • A strong sense of integrity, professionalism and a results-oriented attitude to continually improve processes and systems, enhance efficiency, and contribute to overall organizational success
  • Works well under pressure to meet ongoing and overlapping deadlines within short time constraints
  • CPA designation or equivalent required
  • Accounting firm experience is an asset
  • 5-7+ years of progressive related experience and leadership experience in medium size companies
  • Extensive experience in the management of computerized accounting systems, internal control and the production of financial statements, reports, tax returns and other regulatory reporting
  • Excellent knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles including ASPE; knowledge of IFRS and US GAAP would be an asset
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Business Central other similar accounting software
  • Proven track record in developing high performing teams
  • Relevant industry experience would be an asset
  • Effective communication, organization and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office products
