Company Description Digital Seniors NL is a grassroots initiative dedicated to empowering older adults through digital literacy, confidence-building, and community connection. The organization delivers accessible, hands-on tech training workshops that help seniors safely use smartphones, video calls, online banking, health services, and other digital tools. Working closely with libraries, churches, community centers, and Indigenous organizations, Digital Seniors NL meets seniors where they are, both geographically and technologically. Its programs are grounded in empathy, patience, and practical outcomes that enhance everyday life. Digital Seniors NL collaborates with funders, volunteers, and community leaders who want to support digital inclusion as a vital lifeline for seniors in Newfoundland and Labrador. Role Description The Board Director is a volunteer role responsible for providing strategic leadership and governance to Digital Seniors NL. This on-site position, based in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, involves participating in regular board meetings, reviewing organizational performance, and helping shape long-term priorities and partnerships. The Board Director contributes to policy development, risk management, and financial oversight to ensure programs remain sustainable, inclusive, and impactful. Day-to-day activities may include liaising with community partners, supporting fundraising and outreach efforts, and offering guidance to staff and volunteers on mission alignment. Board Directors act as ambassadors for Digital Seniors NL, promoting digital inclusion for older adults and strengthening relationships with stakeholders across the province.

Qualifications

Strategic leadership and governance skills, including experience with board service, policy development, or nonprofit oversight. Must reside in Newfoundland and Labrador and have a strong understanding of the local community and its needs. Financial literacy and organizational management skills, such as budgeting, reviewing financial reports, or supporting fundraising and resource development. Community engagement and partnership-building skills, including relationship management with local organizations, public speaking, and stakeholder communication. Interest in digital literacy and inclusion, with basic familiarity with everyday technology (e.g., smartphones, video calling, online services) and a commitment to accessible learning. Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work respectfully with diverse communities, including older adults and Indigenous partners. Demonstrated empathy, patience, and commitment to social impact, particularly in rural, remote, or underserved communities. Previous experience in nonprofit, community development, social services, education, or related fields is an asset but not required. Ability to attend on-site meetings and events in Newfoundland and Labrador and contribute time consistently as a volunteer Board Director.
