General Description:
Responsible for obtaining and creating course materials in accessible formats for students with disabilities. Monitor and oversee the day-to-day operation of the accessible lab space in the Library and provide assistance to users in the lab.
Representative Duties & Responsibilities:
- Monitor and oversee the day-to-day operation of the lab space.
- Assist users with assistive technology devices and services offered through the lab.
- Create alternate format materials (tagged pdf’s, mp4’s, accessible word documents, braille) for students with disabilities.
- Obtain or create captions or described video for media content used in courses.
- Coordinate access to textbooks requested by ASL Interpreters.
- Guide and provide information to library student assistants when preparing course materials in alternative formats for students with disabilities.
- Search various databases for information pertaining to alternative format materials.
- Circulate equipment and materials from accessibility spaces on campus.
- Respond to requests from students, instructors and suppliers via email, phone or face-to-face.
- Refer requests to appropriate internal and external sources.
- Maintain current knowledge of trends and issues in library accessibility services.
- Liaise and partner with others to develop marketing and social media materials.
- Provide back-up support to team members relating to accessibility services and support in the Library.
Supervision:
- Ensure adherence to quality standards and procedures for short-term staff (may include staffing for short-term needs).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or related field.
- Requires a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
