Project Opportunity We are looking for a Project Coordinator to join our FCC Canada team assigned to the ONxpress Project

This position is located in downtown Toronto, ON and requires a daily presence in the office and/or on the construction sites.

ONxpress Transportation Partners was chosen in 2022 by Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario to deliver the track, civil infrastructure, signalling , and electrification for the GO Expansion program. This project will transform the GO Transit rail network, resulting in more frequent two-way service, shorter journey times, and a modernized system for the Greater Golden Horseshoe area.

Position Summary As the Sr. Cost Controller, you'll oversee project expenditures, ensuring accuracy and adherence to budgets. Reporting to the Cost Control Manager, your role involves preparing cost reports, analyzing variances, and collaborating with departments to allocate expenses efficiently. Your attention to detail and financial acumen will drive effective cost management and support project success.

The Senior Cost Control Coordinator Key Responsibilities Are

  • Organizing and attending project meetings.
  • Preparing and maintaining cost control plans, utilization staffing plans, and baseline budgets.
  • Assisting with contract administration and payments to subcontractors.
  • Following up on tasks with internal leads and supporting schedule and cost management.
  • Creating and maintaining the Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS) of the project.
  • Maintaining project progress data and resolving any issues that arise.
  • Creating and submitting applications for payment to the client, and responding to related inquiries to ensure proper billing.
  • Coordinating with Risk, Planning, Finance, IDD/BIM, Supply Chain, and Cost Control teams to gather accurate data for accruals and forecasts.
  • Developing and implementing cost control procedures, workflows, and systems aligned with project and company standards.
  • Identifying data sources and acquisition techniques for effective cost control system functionality.
  • Supporting cost control, scheduling, supply chain, finance, and project accounting teams as needed.
  • Preparing and presenting regular cost reports, including dashboards and performance metrics (Earned Value, SPI, CPI, Variances).
  • Establishing and maintaining the project’s cost control structure, including cost centers and resource codes.
  • Inputting and validating actual cost and commitment data in cost control systems, and generating accurate reports.
  • Analyzing cost data to identify variances, inconsistencies, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Allocating cost codes to project expenses and revenues, ensuring consistency across systems.
  • Coordinating and allocating budgets for procurement requisitions, contracts, and purchase orders.
  • Maintaining cost-related registers and structured data tables with regular updates.
  • Managing commitments based on procurement contracts, amendments, change notices, and purchase order revisions.
  • Assisting in the preparation and reconciliation of monthly invoices to the client.
  • Preparing and submitting client-facing reports as required by the contract or project.
  • Establishing and updating cost forecasts through periodic reviews of cost centers.
  • Participating in trend and change management processes, integrating approved changes into the estimate at completion (EAC).
  • Monitoring and reporting on project performance using key cost metrics and indicators.
  • Ensuring compliance with internal policies, procedures, and contractual requirements.
  • Collaborating cross-functionally with construction, estimating, quantity surveying, finance, procurement, and commercial teams.
  • Contributing to project risk review meetings with cost-related insights and analysis.
  • Applying project management principles to support cost control activities and meet project objectives.
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as required.

Education And Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5-7 years' experience in construction cost control in a multidisciplinary project environment on multi-billion-dollar programs/projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities across all levels of organization.
  • College and/or University degrees in Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office suite Excel, Power BI skills is a must.
  • Organizational skills to handle multiple tasks within a high-pressure work site environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees.
  • Willingness to continue learning and advance technical knowledge.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative environment with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Strong analytical, oral, and written communication skills.

Job Requirements

  • Knowledge of financial reporting systems and controlling account codes.
  • Proficiency with cost control principles, policies, procedures, and financial systems.
  • Applied knowledge of Project Management and Cost Controls principles.
  • Experience with Hard Dollar/InEight and SAP ERP systems is an asset.
