About Trickster Theatre

Performing Arts
11-50 employees

For over 45 years, Trickster Theatre has been transforming Alberta schools through the power of physical theatre. What began in 1980 as a one-person touring show has grown into one of the province's most trusted Artist-in-Schools programs — two touring companies, more than 1,300 residencies delivered across urban classrooms, rural communities, and Indigenous reserves throughout Alberta. Our residency model places professional theatre artists inside a school for one week, working alongside students to create and perform a fully original show. Their imagination, their stories, and their community are the raw material. Any theme is possible — schools choose what matters most to them. The process draws on physical theatre, clowning, improvisation, and movement, refined over four and a half decades of practice. The result is not a school play. It is a professional, community-witnessed performance that students carry with them long after the curtain falls — because every student belongs on stage. We support educators and administrators through every step: from the first conversation and funding applications, all the way to opening night.
