Position Summary
Under the direction of the Supervisor/Manager and the ECE staff, the incumbent assists in the duties pertaining to the care and wellbeing of the children enrolled in the Early Childhood Laboratory Centre. The incumbent develops and maintains a professional relationship with families demonstrating genuine appreciation and respect for diverse family systems and practices.
Responsibilities

Assisting with the ongoing supervision of playroom, playground, group and routine activities and the implementation of posted daily activities (indoor and outdoor)

Building and maintaining responsive relationships with individual and groups of children in care
-
Ensuring overall health and safety of children enrolled in the program by maintaining a sanitary and safe environment as well as identifying children who are unwell.

Arranging children’s play space to reflect the philosophty of the curriculum
-
Assisting with the daily preparation of the playground and playroom, and cleaning/organizing of equipment and other areas of the centre as needed

Collaborating with other ECE staff in the developmental assessment of individual children based on observations

Maintaining effective communication with parents and student teachers by sharing daily information regarding children’s activities, program and special events
Qualifications/Experience
-
Completion of a high-school diploma or equivalent experience
-
A minimum of 6 months experience working in a licensed child care centre

Successful candidates are required to submit a current and clear Police Check with Vulnerable Sector screening and medical documentation as required by the Child Care and Early Years Acts

Current Infant & Children’s First Aid with CPR
-
Must be able to lift 50 pounds

Experience, knowledge and understanding of working effectively in a diverse environment

Proven ability to assist in creating a warm and stimulating environment to enhance each child’s growth and development

Effective cross-cultural and interpersonal communication skills
-
Must be flexible, cooperative and able to work effectively in a team environment
