Your role Reporting to a Producer, you will be primarily responsible for field coverage of general news in Southwestern Ontario, specifically in London, Sarnia, Woodstock, and the surrounding areas.

Your work will be featured across all CBC/Radio-Canada platforms, with a particular focus on digital and radio. You must have a deep understanding of regional issues, be mobile, and be able to create content quickly in response to breaking news. Your work is governed by CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices. You must demonstrate creativity and rigor to effectively inform our audiences.

Key responsibilities:

  • Cover local and regional news on a daily basis for our digital and radio platforms.
  • Propose original story ideas, conduct research, and write/produce reports that engage and inform audiences, deepen our community relationships, and amplify a diverse range of perspectives (primarily for digital and radio, and for television as required).
  • Regularly produce exclusive and high-impact content.
  • Synthesize large amounts of complex information under significant time constraints.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with a wide network of sources and contacts.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and present news, plan stories, and coordinate long-term coverage.

Your profile:

  • University degree (or equivalent) in journalism, communications, or a related field
  • Three (3) years of direct related experience demonstrating proven field ability and knowledge of the broadcasting industry and CBC/Radio-Canada's various platforms
  • Proficiency in storytelling techniques and a strong interest in the diverse communities of Southwestern Ontario
  • Relevant experience in story preparation, delivery, and live performance
  • Strong interviewing, writing, and narrative skills
  • Deep understanding of CBC/Radio-Canada’s mandate and journalistic policies
  • Knowledge of the social, political, cultural, and economic landscape of Southwestern Ontario and the province as a whole
  • Familiarity with regional, provincial, and national news
  • Excellent command of both French and English (written and spoken)
  • Valid driver’s license is required
  • Knowledge of production software (iNews, Dalet, Mediacentral) used at CBC/Radio-Canada is an asset
  • Ability to quickly learn and adopt new technologies
  • Strong journalistic instinct, editorial judgment, and decision-making skills
  • Resourcefulness, initiative, and strong interpersonal skills for team collaboration
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate daily tasks to meet tight deadlines under pressure
  • Boldness, creativity, and curiosity in fact-finding and news gathering
  • Availability for travel and flexible working hours
