The Town of New Tecumseth is looking for a Municipal Law Enforcement Student to join our Municipal Law Enforcement Team for the Summer term.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Municipal Law Enforcement, the successful applicant will enforce various by-laws, with emphasis on but not limited to Parking Control by-laws, Property Standards/Zoning By-laws, Business Licensing, Sign Enforcement and Clean Yards. They will conduct patrols; issue Part I & Part II certificates of offence for infractions related to timed parking, fire routes, accessible parking, and signs issues notices and orders as required; perform related administrative duties; attend and give evidence in court as required. The job involves considerable driving in all weather conditions.

How you contribute to our organization:

  • Investigates inquiries and complaints and conducts patrols regarding all Town by-laws and regulations, including but not limited to, parking, property standards, signs and ensures that appropriate action is taken to resolve the matter(s).

  • Performs administrative duties with respect to the Municipal Law Enforcement Division. . This includes but is not limited to responding to all incoming municipal law enforcement related telephone calls from the public, , response to general inquiries, notifying the Municipal Law Enforcement Officers of complaints to be addressed; following up on complaints; composing correspondence and various reports and documents as required.

  • Enforce various by-laws, with emphasis on but not limited to Parking Control by-laws, Property Standards / Zoning By-laws, Business Licensing, Sign Enforcement and Clean Yards.

  • Maintain complete and accurate records/field notes and input records into incident management software.

  • Maintains records for Parking Tickets pursuant to the MTO parking program. Prepares notices within required deadlines.

  • Attends property standards meetings, and Dangerous Dog Appeal Committee relating to canine matters.

  • Research on municipal by-laws or best practices as requested by the Clerk, Manager, or Supervisor of Municipal Law Enforcement and provides summaries and analysis of other municipal legislation required in course of preparing Town by-laws.

What you bring to the team:

  • Enrolled in a college diploma program in the Security, Enforcement or Law field, such as Protection, Security, and Investigation or related discipline.

  • Must have a minimum Class "G2" driver's license, and ability to submit a clean driver’s abstract upon hire.

  • Ability to submit a clean Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) upon hire.

  • Valid First Aid and CPR/AED level “C” certificate (or willing to obtain)

  • Some closely-related work experience; basic knowledge of law enforcement gained from either post-secondary courses or practical work experience would be an asset.

  • Good interpersonal, public relations, oral and written communication skills; and must be willing and able to walk or drive in all weather conditions.

  • Demonstrated judgment and problem-solving skills.

Wage Rate: $19.56, plus 4% vacation pay and optional enrolment in OMERS pension plan
Hours: 35 hours per week, may include evenings and weekends
Location: Town Hall, 24 Tupper Street West, Alliston
Dates: January 1 – May 1, 2026
