About the role
The Mint is hiring a Refiner – Electrolysis, who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Refinery Operations the Refiner – Electrolysis performs process activities within the Gold Electrolysis, Silver Refinery IF-13 and ALS areas. This includes operating, monitoring and controlling equipment and processes; material handling; routine maintenance; assisting with stocktaking of precious metals within work area; preparing supplies and records; housekeeping; compliance with safety environmental and ISO policies; participating in continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
This opening is to be filled on a continuous operation and/or shift work basis.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Language Requirements:
Proficiency in one official language (English/French) is essential. Bilingual (English and French) is an asset.
Education:
- Completed high school diploma.
- Possess a DEP, DEC or a certificate in metallurgy, plumbing, foundry or other related degree in metal processing will be preferred.
Additional Qualifications:
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work in industrial refinery environment with exposure to chemicals, heat, and noise
- Capable of entering confined spaces with appropriate respiratory protective equipment
- Physical capability to operate material handling equipment and perform equipment
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends for 12 hours shift
- Comfortable working with high-temperature systems and managing exothermic chemical reactions
- Ability to generate detailed documentation for audit, QC, and production tracking
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities for equipment malfunctions
- Proficiency in process optimization and parameter adjustment
- Critical thinking skills for real-time operational decision-making
- Ability to interpret analytical data, assay results, and process parameters
- Experience with HMI (Human-Machine Interface) and PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) systems
- Operate the IF-13 furnaces, the press and any related talks.(asset)
- Perform routine tasks such as loading cells, recuperating product, disassembling and assembling cells.
- Adjust solutions according to guidelines.
- Operate and setup ALS (asset)
- Identify malfunction of processes and equipment.
- Operate and set-up cells for electro-refining and electrolytic dissolution and related equipment.
- Evaluate quality of product.
- Safely handle large volumes of corrosive solution using standard material handling equipment.
- Perform maintenance checks and minor repairs.
- Communicate clearly and work in a team environment.
- Recognize hazardous conditions and take appropriate corrective action.
- Demonstrate initiative, judgment, and reliability.
Knowledge:
- Maintain a high level of safety awareness and security of physical assets.
- Knowledge of the Health & Safety procedures at the RCM including the effective use of any safety materials, chemicals, equipment, devices and clothing intended for employee protection.
- Knowledge and application of continuous improvement principles and work in cross-functional teams.
- Working knowledge of the chemical and electrochemical principles of precious metal refining.
- Basic knowledge of electrical/mechanical operating principles of process and support equipment.
- General understanding of the refining operation of the RCM in the context of customer (internal & external) expectations and business requirements.
- Basic computer knowledge.
