Created in 2015 to align, lighten and modernize infrastructure, the Technology & Infrastructure (T & I) team is the backbone and the future forward arm of CBC/Radio-Canada. This role requires full-time on-site presence.

Your role:

Advise Technical Services, Engineering, Production and other departments in planning, acquiring, approving, installing and implementing new equipment or systems, as well as devise unique, creative solutions for modifying and enhancing production and broadcasting systems/equipment, maximizing their use and performance and simplifying their maintenance in a multidisciplinary environment that includes networking, optics, electronics and computer systems. Design, draft, organize and deliver technical training courses or seminars.

This position is with the Systems management team (Sysman and SSR).

Description of duties:

  • Advise Technical Services, Engineering, Production and other departments in planning, acquiring, approving, installing and implementing new equipment or systems, as well as in optimizing their use.
  • Plan and co-ordinate the installation, implementation and integration of production and broadcasting equipment and systems as part of assigned projects.
  • Make recommendations for selecting new equipment and implementation strategies through an ongoing dialogue with specialized staff (engineers, production crew, etc.) on their requirements.
  • Establish, draft, document and recommend operating procedures.
  • Develop and implement unique, approved technical solutions for issues that cannot be resolved by commercially available designs or subsystems.
  • Review approve and co-ordinate the application of recommendations, changes, technical solutions and maintenance procedures received from technicians at all levels.
  • Provide, on an ongoing basis, expertise, direction, guidance and professional encouragement to maintenance technicians so as to ensure that maintenance work is performed as competently as possible.
  • Plan, co-ordinate, assign, review and monitor project work performed by technicians reporting to you, advising the technicians as needed.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies with an eye to applying them to resolve issues that arise.
  • Design, draft, organize and deliver technical training courses or seminars and guide workers in performing their duties.
  • Complete the appropriate forms and documents; convey information in person or in writing to ensure proper follow-up and keep others informed.
  • Familiarize other employees with their duties and work environment.
  • If necessary, carry out all or part of the duties of another job classification within an equivalent or lower salary group, as well as other related duties.

What you bring:

  • College diploma (DSC) in electronics technology (audiovisual, telecommunications or computer systems option) or other relevant field.
  • Ten (10) or more years’ experience, given that you will be consulting on both new and legacy equipment and systems.
