SUMMARY – Driver Recruiter - Fulltime
Shift: Monday to Friday 08:00-16:30
Reporting the Driver Recruiting Supervisor, the Driver Recruiter is responsible for sourcing, screening, qualifying, and hiring Over the Road Truck Drivers based on Operational requirements. The ultimate mission of this role is to eliminate un-seated trucks and improve driver retention and lower turnover rates. The Mid-Level Driver Recruiter provides guidance to hiring managers and other stakeholders with applicable federal and state employment laws and regulations as well as departmental processes.

KEY ACTIVITIES

Driver Recruitment
-
Analyze driver needs for designated recruitment territory within Canada, communicates any special needs to the appropriate Territorial Fleet Manager under guidance of the Supervisor

Plan, organize, and execute territorial recruitment strategies to attract drivers and owner/operators.

Assists Multi-Unit Owner Operators with building their fleet, provides guidance to Owner Operators on the eligibility of, and the hiring of drivers for their fleet
-
Builds networks and develop a pool of qualified candidates in advance of needs.

Research, and recommend new sources for active and passive candidate recruiting, build networks and develop a pool of qualified candidates in advance of needs
-
Execute territorial recruitment strategies to attract drivers and owner/operators
-
Analyze driver and owner operator pay to effectively explain potential annual earnings, and advise on areas of travel.
-
Responsible for sourcing, pre-screening, and assessing candidates for hire under the guidance of the Supervisor, develops effective practices to ensure a qualified, high caliber candidate pool is presented to hiring managers.

Communicate with Company Drivers, assists Drivers for Owner/Operator applicants, and Owner/Operators under the guidance of the Supervisor through all stages of the onboarding process in order to recruit, select and hire qualified individuals.

Conduct driver screening: utilize driver interview guides, review driver abstracts, assist to complete applications, interviews and background checks, and arrange for second level interviews

Supports departments through the vetting and onboarding of: Company Drivers, Owner Operators, and drivers for Owner Operators

Performs other administrative duties such background checks for all driver candidates

Engage, screen, qualify and inform potential prospects from various lead sources using cold calling, e-mail, computer databases, and Internet recruiting resource

Uses technology to track applicant results to help improve efficiencies in applicant process

Establishes good working relationships with stakeholders: Safety, Operations, Maintenance, HR.
-
Requires minimal assistance with Driver files, understand hiring requirements, FMCSA regulations, can easily identify concerns and where the driver does not meet qualifications to independently decline a driver file, sending all files to the Supervisor for review and pre-approval.

Assisting with the planning and organizing in house career fairs
-
Coordinates road evaluations, providing guidance to drivers and owner operators particularly on Imperica road evaluations, interpreting road evaluations, and declining drivers who failed advising when they can reapply.

Cross training on all territories to support other recruiters when volume is high and / or to backfill in times of absence.

Travel as required to career fairs, organizing of recruitment materials for career fairs, conceptualizing and developing new materials with recruitment manager where required
-
Prepares licensing for all tractor units, and prepares owner operator contracts, requests for letter of intent for financing where required.

Coordinates pre-hire inspections with maintenance, advise owner operators of the shops ability to conduct work on the tractor units

Driver Recruiting Advertising

Request for advertisements on web-based platforms such as Indeed for designated territory.

Driver Retention

Assist in the planning and organization of driver engagement events i.e.: flat deck Fridays

Attend regular conference calls with the department to discuss ongoing issues and concerns.

Train and follow new industry rules and regulations
-
Support and participate in strategies to develop, attract and retain strategies for drivers & owner operators.

Assist with any questions drivers may have before, during or after the hiring process.

Escalation of driver concerns to managers
-
Other duties as assigned
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
Education
- Post-secondary education related to recruitment such as CPHR, RPR or ACIR, transportation and/or business administration, or willingness to obtain.
Experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Knowledge of interviewing strategies, cold calling, and related regulatory guidelines with respect to human resources, Canada Labour Code, Safety, etc.
- Understanding of rules and regulations pertaining to transportation compliance
- 2+ years of experience as a Driver Recruiter or similar role
- Computer proficiency in a variety of software applications (ADP, Synergize, MS Office, web-based platforms: Indeed and Zip Recruiter, Synergize Application Software etc.).
- Transportation related knowledge with respect to operations, safety, and compliance.
- Excellent communications skills both verbal and written.
- Active listening skills to establish and build relationships, facilitate collaboration and teamwork.
- Strong people management, coaching and organizational skills, attention to detail, and an ability to work under strict timelines.
- Intercultural sensitivity when dealing with a multicultural workforce and driver candidates from different cultures.
