About the role
As an Investment Banking Analyst or Associate on the Financial Sponsors Coverage Investment Banking team at National Bank Financial Inc. ("NBF"), you play a key role in supporting the team’s deal pitch activity and transaction execution. You will participate in a wide variety of transactions led by senior members of the team and deepen your knowledge of the investment banking industry.
This role provides ample opportunity for career growth and will involve working closely with colleagues across multiple coverage teams, including Diversified Industries, Financial Institutions, Infrastructure, Technology, Media, Telecommunications and Healthcare.
You will also work collaboratively with other Financial Markets businesses including Equity Capital Markets, Credit Capital Markets, and Fixed Income.
Your Job
- Supporting active, global coverage of Financial Sponsor clients and their respective portfolio companies
- Evaluating and analyzing the financial needs of corporate clients, including building complex financial models and performing valuation analysis
- Supporting deal teams with transaction structuring in addition to executing advisory and financing mandates with increasing levels of responsibility and accountability over time
- Preparing presentation materials to support our clients’ capital decision making
- Drafting marketing materials for transactions, including deal-related investor presentations, prospectuses, and related documentation
- Conducting company and industry research and analysis
- Performing various tasks supporting senior team members in their deal execution and client coverage efforts
Although the emphasis is placed on analysis, financial modelling and written presentations, candidates must also demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with clients, colleagues, and other advisors.

This group currently consists of over 170 professionals located in offices in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, and New York. The Investment Banking Group at NBF has demonstrated considerable momentum over the last few years, experiencing strong growth in deal flow.
NBF’s Financial Sponsor Coverage Investment Banking team is looking for a Toronto-based candidate to play a lead role in supporting the team’s pitch activity and transaction execution.
Basic Requirements
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in finance, accounting, economics or engineering is preferred, with a track record of strong academic performance
- At least 2-3 years of experience in investment banking or relevant experience in transaction advisory, equity research, corporate finance, M&A, private equity or other private investing, capital markets or corporate development
- Strong knowledge of financial theory, accounting, and capital markets
- Demonstrated financial modelling skillset, with experience developing complex, dynamic financial models
- Knowledge of capital markets and investment banking applications
- Exceptional proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, and Word
- Experience with Bloomberg and Capital IQ would be considered an asset
- Demonstrated problem-solving mindset, collaborative approach and great team spirit
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships
- Excellent communication skills in English (verbal and written)
