JOB DESCRIPTION
St. Thomas Aquinas Regional Secondary School is seeking a compassionate and skilled Lifeskills Coordinator to lead and support programming for students with diverse learning, behavioural, social-emotional, academic, and independent living needs.
The Lifeskills Coordinator will oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive Life Skills Program rooted in the dignity of every learner and the mission of Catholic education. This role includes supporting students on individualized programs, including Evergreen programming, and helping them develop independence, self-advocacy, emotional regulation, social responsibility, and practical life skills.
Key Responsibilities
The Lifeskills Coordinator will:
- Develop, write, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans for students with diverse learning and behavioural profiles.
- Create individualized programming, accommodations, modifications, goals, and transition plans that are measurable and responsive to student growth.
- Lead Integrated Case Management teams and collaborate with families, teachers, counsellors, educational assistants, administrators, community agencies, and outside professionals.
- Support student development in self-advocacy, emotional regulation, functional independence, communication, and social responsibility.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support differentiated instruction, inclusive practices, and appropriate interventions.
- Provide guidance and support to educational assistants working with students in the Life Skills Program.
- Monitor student progress, adjust programming as needed, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Ensure compliance with provincial and CISVA guidelines, policies, and inclusive education practices.
- Contribute to a Catholic school culture where students are known, supported, challenged, and included.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- A valid BC teaching certificate or eligibility for certification.
- Training or experience in Special Education, Inclusive Education, Learning Assistance, or a related field.
- Experience developing and implementing IEPs, including for students on modified or Evergreen programs.
- Strong understanding of differentiated instruction, social-emotional learning, executive functioning, and the Response to Intervention framework.
- Experience working with families, teachers, educational assistants, counsellors, and external professionals.
- Strong communication, organization, documentation, and case-management skills.
- A pastoral, student-centred approach rooted in patience, compassion, professionalism, and respect for the dignity of every learner.
- A commitment to the mission and identity of Catholic education.
A Master’s degree in Inclusive Education, or progress toward one, is preferred.
