The Role:
The Category Buyer is responsible for purchasing products and services across all OSI departments, including all directly related tasks such as sourcing quotes, issuing purchase orders, managing vendor returns and rework, expediting, and maintaining accurate purchasing data in OSI’s ERP system. Key objectives include optimizing purchasing processes, ensuring accurate purchase order data, maintaining up-to-date supplier pricing and lead times, and driving overall efficiency and data integrity.

This role collaborates closely with Category Leads and cross-functional teams. A solutions-focused, customer-centric mindset is essential when working with internal stakeholders, along with a proactive approach to supplier engagement to ensure timely and effective supply chain support.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Purchases of materials, components, equipment and services, as required for projects, production or other internal uses
  • Issues purchase orders ensuring all critical requirements are clearly confirmed by suppliers
  • Work with suppliers that fail to meet commitments and seek solutions to supplier performance when unsatisfactory
  • Assists with Supplier Corrective Action Reports (SCARs) and communicates directly with vendors to ensure completion of reports
  • Assists with the development, management and execution of purchasing plans for projects to ensure that the goods and services required meet the needs of internal departments as well as customer and contractual requirements
  • Ensure product and part traceability throughout the supply chain
  • Verifies part and component obsolescence data with suppliers and communicates relevant information to internal stakeholders
  • Coordinates the return of defective material to OEMs and suppliers and is responsible for timely disposition of materials that require vendor repairs or replacement, including returns through the MRB process
  • Assists Category Leads with the competitive bid process, by preparing documentation for the quotes
  • Assists Accounting department with supplier accounts
  • Assists in the development of policies, systems and procedures to support business optimization
  • Provide daily and monthly reporting, as required
  • Develops and maintains detailed technical knowledge of OSI products and component parts

You Bring:

  • Education/ Experience: Minimum of two years of post-secondary education with three years of experience in a similar role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience creating, issuing, and managing Purchase Orders
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems in a manufacturing environment (experience with EPICOR is an asset)
  • Experience in engineering/technical environments, preferably in manufacturing or product development of industrial, commercial or electronic products
  • Strong written and spoken English
  • A basic ability to read and understand technical documentation
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, and Excel
