About the Position

The Development Officer supports Lethbridge Polytechnic’s philanthropic priorities by building and managing a portfolio of donors and prospects. At the heart of this role is strong relationship building and identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding supporters through meaningful, authentic engagement. The Development Officer connects with individuals, businesses and community partners to build trust, align donor interests with institutional priorities and secure financial support to advance critical programs and initiatives.

Working within the External Engagement team, the Development Officer collaborates with internal partners to understand institutional needs and maintain an up-to-date inventory of funding opportunities. The role prepares proposals and briefing materials, supports the development of gift agreements and ensures donor activity aligns with institutional policies and CRA guidelines.

Candidates should bring experience in fundraising, sales, or partnership development, with a demonstrated ability to build rapport, communicate effectively and deliver results through strong engagement and relationship management. Success in this role requires exceptional interpersonal skills, a high level of social intelligence, strategic thinking, discretion, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, relationship-driven fundraising environment.

Position Details

Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, guiding them through the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship stages of the giving cycle

  • Build and sustain strong relationships with individuals, corporations, and community partners to advance institutional priorities.

  • Collaborate with internal partners to understand and maintain an up-to-date inventory of institutional funding needs.

  • Prepare compelling proposals, briefing notes and supporting materials tailored to donor interests and strategic priorities.

  • Support the development, review and finalization of gift agreements in alignment with institutional policies and CRA requirements.

  • Conduct research to identify new prospects, assess donor capacity, and inform cultivation and solicitation strategies.

  • Maintain accurate donor records, contact reports, and portfolio activity in Salesforce to support reporting, forecasting, and moves management.

  • Contribute to donor stewardship by preparing acknowledgment letters, coordinating recognition and assisting with impact reporting.

  • Support planning and execution of fundraising strategies, campaigns, and targeted initiatives to meet revenue targets and institutional goals.

  • Represent Lethbridge Polytechnic at meetings, events and community engagements to build visibility and strengthen donor relationships.

  • Actively champion a culture of philanthropy across Lethbridge Polytechnic, strengthening internal understanding and support for fundraising initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Education:
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Business, Communications, Public Relations or a related field.

Experience:

  • Three to five years of experience in fundraising, sales, business development or another relationship-driven role with proven success achieving measurable results.

  • Strong relationship-building, communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience managing a portfolio, pipeline, or client list, including preparing proposals or client/donor materials.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

  • Experience using CRM systems; Salesforce experience is an asset.

  • Knowledge of CRA charitable regulations or willingness to learn.

  • Ability to work occasional evenings/weekends and travel within southern Alberta.

Preferred Qualifications

Salary

Starting from $67,740 to $77,302 per annum; commensurate with education and experience.
