PLUMBER
NANAIMO MAINTENANCE YARD
12-month Term Certain
The O****pportunity
We are looking for a safety-minded individual, responsible for the installation and maintenance of all mechanical plumbing systems throughout BC Ferries facilities.
The Role
Reporting to the Trades Supervisor, you will perform the following duties:
- Repairing, maintaining, and installing washroom fixtures and appliances, pumps, furnaces, tanks, sprinklers, valves, boilers, drains, fire hydrants, steam pipe, sewage, and water lines; and testing and installing systems.
- Conducting visual and operational inspections and ensuring integrity of all mechanical systems at a given location.
- Organizing and maintaining tools, materials, and parts; completing paperwork; maintaining a supply inventory.
- Performing maintenance jobs including winterizing mechanical systems; sewage treatment adjustments; servicing emergency fire hydrants; testing cross connection control devices; inspecting and repairing gas, oil, and propane appliances; and lubricating motorized systems.
- Provides a "lead hand" role for new employees and helpers, including input for performance assessment.
- Performing additional duties including flushing sump pump stations; operating equipment; scheduling work to coordinate with other trades and assisting them with their work; and maintaining a vehicle.
What you bring to the team
You bring a basic knowledge of WCB regulations and safe working practice and a working knowledge of relevant materials and tools. You hold a BC Trades Qualification in Plumbing and a valid BC Drivers Licence.
Travel to off-site work locations is required.
