The Opportunity
Reporting to the Chief Culture & Communications Officer, the General Manager of People & Culture is a member of the YMCA’s senior leadership team and participates in all elements of Human Resource Management. The General Manager of People & Culture will play an essential role in the day-to-day operations and strategic People & Culture goals of the YMCA. This includes oversight of recruitment and retention across multiple departments, from licensed child care and community programming to health, wellness, and newcomer services, ensuring each area is supported with tailored hiring and people strategies.
Additionally, this role plays a part in supporting the New Brunswick YMCAs in Fredericton and Moncton as an advisor and working on strategic People & Culture initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Work with all departments to forecast staffing needs and develop workforce strategies.
- Develops all job descriptions in conjunction with departmental managers.
- Manages and updates wage scales based on trends and market data.
- Supports leaders in managing performance. This includes the performance management system, team dynamics, conflict and issues.
- Responsible for handling all formal complaints and investigations.
- Develops and supports delivery of leadership training programs.
- Develops and implements succession planning and supports staff development strategies.
- Oversees the recruitment and selection process and supports as needed, which includes researching new sources for talent, cultivating relationships with industry professionals and networking with local educations institutions.
- Ensures legal compliance through HR management.
- Manages and continuously enhances HRIS system.
- Creates, reviews and updates employee policies and resources.
- Promotes and supports administration of all benefits which includes mental health and employee wellbeing, pension, health, dental, membership, etc.
- Manages HR metrics and provides insights on HR data to management.
- Responsible for assisting in enhancing staff engagement – including but not limited to site engagement visits, administering employee related surveys (eNPS/Wellness), completing exit interviews.
- Oversees employee appreciation spend.
- Supports any actions on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) strategies.
- Any other duties as required that align with the scope and nature of the role.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree with a concentration in Human Resources or related discipline;
- Chartered Professional in Human Resources ( CPHR ) designation required.
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in a similar setting;
- Relevant experience or a combination of experience and education, delivering Human Resources services and programs;
- Effective relationship building and collaborating skills;
- Highly effective communication skills;
- Experience working with HRIS and ATS, as well as Microsoft office suite.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism and achieving results;
- Proven time management and organization skills with a willingness to take initiative.

In 2019 we opened the Irving Oil Field House, complete with a 127,000 square foot facility, two indoor turf fields, a 200m walking track, a fitness centre, Child Care and more!
