Job Description POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: Under the guidance of Food Services Manager, the cook will provide an economic and appetizing food service program in accordance with agency standards.

Key Accountabilities

  • The cook, in following the menus established by the Manager, must be skilled and efficient in planning the utilization of all food products such as –leftovers, donations, types and varieties of meals to be served
  • Performs all the functions of a cook in preparation of a wide variety of foods, portions cooked, carving of meats, vegetable servings and overall kitchen practices
  • Maintains a wholesome menu selection presenting a variety of food selections and appetizing in presentation
  • Assists and coordinates preparation for special luncheons and events as requested by the Manager
  • Maintains a professional atmosphere and control of the kitchen, dining room and equipment
  • Has a solid understanding of food and product inventory control and associated duties, including ordering and recommending supplies required
  • Provides support management of food supplies
  • Ensures kitchen and dining room are maintained at a high level of cleanliness according to health standards and the standards of ARC
  • Directs and gives instructions to kitchen helper and volunteers
  • Understanding of donations and supply and demand
  • Maintains Dock Coolers in an organized fashion, cleanliness, and rotating stock for effective use
  • Receives and inspects incoming orders of food for quantity and quality, ensuring proper storage in appropriate areas, e.g. storerooms, coolers, freezers
  • May be assigned other duties

Health & Safety

  • Must have current Food Safe certificate.

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT Governance Boards and Councils: None.

Internal: Supervisor, staff, clients.

External MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Reports directly to Food Services Manager
  • Direct reports: None.

Financial And Materials Management

  • Limited financial and materials management.

Working Conditions The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct. Education And Experience Qualifications Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of high school, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months.
  • One to three years of prior related experience, with at least one year of institutional cooking experience.
  • Will hold/have cook’s papers (1 year course).
  • Must have current Food Safe certificate.

Experience And Skilled Knowledge Requirements Skills and Capabilities

  • Must possess administrative skills and be computer literate or be willing to train.
  • Must be calm in busy and sometimes stressful situations.
  • Must be well organized.
  • Must be presentable in appearance in accordance with ARC standards.
  • Must possess a valid class Driver's License.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain a valid First Aid\C.P.R. certificate
  • Must provide verification of negative TB skin test.
  • Must provide a Criminal Record Check.
  • Must reflect and understand the ARC philosophy, standards and tenets

Compensation The target hiring range for this position is $24.06 to $24.56 with a maximum of $25.06.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
