Director, Operations – Process, AI Strategy, Execution & Delivery

Role Summary
The Director, Operations – Process, AI Strategy, Execution & Delivery leads the governed execution and operationalization of AI-enabled transformation across middle office and back office functions apart from re-imagining / simplification of processes. This role translates enterprise AI strategy intosimplified, reimagined, secure, compliant, and scalable operating modelsthat improve efficiency, strengthen control environments, and deliver measurable business value.
A core requirement of this role is the ability tosimplify complex processes, reimagine operating models, and redesign workflows before automation. The successful candidate will combine deep operations expertise with AI execution leadership to ensure Generative AI, Copilots, and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) are embedded intofit‑for‑purposeprocesses that enable adoption, sustainability, and trust.
This is a hybrid role based in Toronto, with regular in-office collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
AI Strategy Execution & Operational Delivery
- Lead end-to-end execution of AI, GenAI, Copilot, and RPA initiatives across middle and back office operations.
- Translate enterprise AI strategy intosimplified execution roadmaps, target operating models, and delivery plans.
- Drive AI solutions from concept and pilot through production-ready, enterprise-scale deployment.
- Deliver measurable outcomes including productivity gains, cycle-time reduction, error reduction, and capacity creation.
Process Simplification, Reimagining and Core Accountability
- Leadprocess simplification and reimagininginitiatives as a prerequisite to AI and automation enablement.
- Deconstruct complex, fragmented, or control-heavy workflows intostandardized, streamlined, and automation-ready processes.
- Challenge legacy operating assumptions and redesign workflows to optimize forstraight-through processing, exception-based handling, and AI augmentation.
- Design future-state processes that balance automation, human judgment, risk controls, and scalability.
Process Transformation (Middle & Back Office)
- Partner with operations leaders to assess, redesign, and standardize end-to-end processes using lean, design thinking, and AI-first principles.
- Apply GenAI and automation to transaction-heavy, exception-driven, and judgment-assisted workflows.
- Ensure AI is embedded into day-to-day operational execution, supported by clear roles, decision rights, andhuman-in-the-loop controls.
- Align process design with data availability, model capabilities, and control requirements.
Governance, Risk, Compliance & Security
- Establish and operate AI governance frameworks, including lifecycle management, approvals, and performance monitoring.
- Ensure redesigned processes and AI-enabled workflows comply with regulatory requirements, internal policies, data privacy, and records management standards.
- Partner with Risk, Compliance, Audit, Privacy, Legal, and Security teams to proactively embed controls into reimagined AI-enabled processes.
- Ensure AI solutions are secure, explainable, auditable, and defensible.
Operational Performance & Value Realization
- Define and monitor success metrics such as MTTR, cost savings, error reduction, automation rates, SLA adherence, and productivity uplift.
- Establish value realization tracking tied toprocess simplification, control reduction, and operating leverage, not just model performance.
- Partner with data teams to define data quality standards, governance, and operational telemetry.
- Implement closed-loop feedback mechanisms to continuously improve both AI modelsand underlying processes.
Execution Governance & Leadership
- Establish disciplined execution frameworks, delivery cadence, risk management, and dependency tracking.
- Lead and develop senior managers and cross-functional teams spanning operations, technology, data, and risk.
- Influence outcomes across data science, engineering, and business teams, often without direct authority.
- Drive adoption through change management, workforce enablement, and capability uplift tied to new ways of working.
Experience & Qualifications (Refined)
- 10+ years of experience in AI/ML strategy, intelligent automation,process transformation, operations management, or management consulting, preferably in regulated or control-intensive environments.
- Demonstrated successsimplifying and reimagining complex processesprior to or alongside AI and automation deployment.
- Proven delivery of enterprise-scale AI, GenAI, RPA, or automation initiatives.
- Strong understanding of Generative AI, LLMs, agentic workflows, intelligent assistance patterns, and MLOps.
- Experience designing target operating models and future-state workflows enabled by AI.
- Familiarity with cloud-based AI platforms (Azure preferred) and data visualization tools.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven executive communication, storytelling, and stakeholder management skills.
Salary:
$121,600.00 - $211,800.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
