Position Details

Transportation and Infrastructure - Government of Newfoundland and Labrador

The position of Aircraft Maintenance Engineer IB performs maintenance work involving the inspection and repair of Government aircraft including engines, airframes, and electrical systems to ensure airworthiness, industry best practices and Transport Canada Standards. This position performs daily and periodic inspections; reviewing, recording, accepting and certifying the completion of all inspections, snag clearances, minor and major repair and modifications in keeping with the Departmental Maintenance Control manual (MCM) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARS) in the appropriate maintenance logs and supervises the work of aircraft mechanics. Other related duties as assigned.

Screening Criteria

  1. Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Technology from a Transport Canada approved institution
  2. Possession of a valid Transport Canada M1 and M2 license
  3. Experience with maintenance and structural repairs, avionics and hydraulic systems and turbine operation
  4. Experience working on Beech turbine aircraft

Assessment Criteria

  1. Knowledge of maintenance and structural repairs, avionics and hydraulic systems, turbine engine operation
  2. Knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARS)
  3. Knowledge of related safety regulations, policies and practices
  4. Knowledge of WinAir (asset)
  5. Ability to make independent decisions and solve problems
  6. Ability to assess and evaluate multiple issues and balance competing demands in a dynamic environment
  7. Relationship building (teamwork)

  1. Ability to Ability to obtain A Restricted Area Identity Card
  2. A Valid Canadian Passport

Conditions of Acceptance

  1. Frequent travel, both scheduled and unscheduled, throughout the Province will be required for inspections, breakdowns, etc.
  2. Aircraft stand by is a regular part of the position.
  3. Work weekends occasionally.
  4. The demands of the job occasionally result in considerable fatigue.
  5. Regularly required to lift or move objects less than 10 lbs. and objects 10 - 25 lbs. Occasionally required to lift or move objects 25 - 50 lbs and over 50 lbs. An example of lifting or moving is moving a Q2 cart to aircraft to replenish oxygen. Stand on a regular basis and occasionally sit, walk, climb, drive and work in awkward or cramped positions. Examples include driving a tractor to move heavy aircraft, working in a gear well to work on snags or twisting in awkward positions to install components.
  6. Working at heights is also involved with this position.
