The Opportunity
This position works out of our Ottawa, Ontario location in the Point of Care, Diagnostics division. Our Point of Care diagnostic portfolio spans key heath and therapeutic areas, including infections disease, cardiometabolic, informatics and toxicology. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers. As a member of the Print Manufacturing Operations team, you will fulfill the role of a Wafer Fab Operator II (Print).
Position Overview:
Your primary responsibility in this role will be to act as a part of the team, working safely in a cleanroom environment to achieve established production goals and metrics for the Print Operations Department. Your workstations may support our Component Printers which produce covers and bases for our final cartridges, and our Wafer Printers which produce our chips for our final cartridges. It is expected as a Print Operator II that you have met all the required qualifications and responsibilities of a Print Operator I and have some intermediate knowledge and experience on a combination of Wafer and Component Print processes. The candidate may also have additional training in another department that supports manufacturing processes within Abbott Point of Care or equivalent external knowledge and experience.
What You’ll Do

Responsible for properly using equipment and materials and is careful to observe all safety and security procedures associated with running assigned workstations (Component Print and/or Wafer Print).

Ability to use computers, assess visual images for inspections, manual inspections and utilize software to record data and track in and out of steps for your workstation.

Meets standards with a commitment to excellence.

Looks for ways to improve quality and efficiencies and utilizes idea program to share ideas.

Achieves error free work and is compliant to all process procedures associated with the tasks within their assigned workstation.

Keeps workstation tidy through wipe down at the beginning and end of the shift.
-
Maintains workstation throughout the shift and ensures FIFO is followed (First In, First Out).

Monitors yields and equipment during shift and notifies support staff when problems are identified.

Performs inline inspections according to associated documentation applicable to the Workstation.

Demonstrates a commitment to increase productivity and works at a pace to ensure goals are met.

Performs stretches at least twice during shift, to ensure ergonomic requirements are being followed.

Restocks supplies, clean totes/boxes, and receives daily wafer/component shipments as required. Also prepares shipments and fills in log sheet.

Operator II’s typically support either Component Print or Wafer Print. As training is completed; the expectation is that the operator has the ability to:
- Component Print – Fully trained and adept to run on all Component Printers (including all cells)
OR
- Wafer Print – Fully trained and adept to run on all Wafer Print types (PVC, CO2, BUN, Immuno, MIH, COAG9)
OR
- A training combination of skills to run some Component Printers and Wafer Print types. The training combination demonstrates the capability to support both printed sub-components (components and wafers), and an adaptability to support the area where needed.
- Ability to work independently and support engineering studies when required.
- Ability to resolve most routine process/production problems within their workstation, and able to escalate and communicate issues clearly to support teams (Process Optech, Engineering Team, and Equipment Tech).
- Ability to use parallel processing skills to help out as instructed by Team Leader or Supervisor when dealing with resourcing shortages or bottleneck processes.
- Performs ICOS inspections on wafers.
- Provides break coverage for priority printers.
- Variable tasks may be requested to support at the direction of the Team Leader or Supervisor: cross-training with other departments, assist with training new team members, and compiling shift notes at the end of shift.
- Begins work on time and is ready in the room when shift starts. Gives advance notice when time off is needed and meets guidelines for sick leave. Uses Kronos as the timekeeping system.
- Ability to lift up to 20lbs, as safe handling of product (wafer boxes and totes) is required.
- Encourages, supports, and actively contributes as a member of the team/shift.
- Acts as a role model for behavior and performance to our entry level colleagues.
- Ensures training records are completed on time and prior to completing tasks.
- Understands and complies with applicable EH&S policies and procedures. Identifies and reports unsafe/potentially unsafe hazards within the Print room.
- Other miscellaneous duties may be requested to support the department or business.
Shift: Night C – Fixed, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and every other Saturday, from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- One to three years of manufacturing experience
- Competent in data entry and utilizing the software to support assigned workstation. Computer skills using MS-Office and Traksuite applications.
- Highly motivated to work independently and as a member of a team and department.
- Has the ability to plan, organize and prioritize own work at the workstation assigned to meet the established schedule.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills.
- Detail oriented and ability to multi-task.
- Adaptable to changing priorities and open to pivot duties when required.
- Excellent ability to communicate clearly, concisely, accurately, and openly with colleagues and shift supervisor or team leader.
- Ability to form and develop interpersonal and professional relationships.
- Displays socially and professionally appropriate behavior.
