The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Recreation Services, the Supervisor, Community Programs is responsible for the overall design and delivery of recreation-specific programs, services, and related initiatives in continuous response to the changing needs of the community and that promote access and equitable process for residents. The Supervisor will lead a team of non-unionized staff to consistently deliver and implement program-specific and service-based partnerships offered Town-wide and in strategic alignment with the Corporation and Town Council strategic vision. Regardless of program area of focus, the Supervisor is expected to consistently represent the Recreation Services division and uphold a high standard of customer service in all patron interactions.

As the Supervisor, Community Engagement you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Lead the development and implementation of policy, procedures, communications, performance measures, best practices and quality assurance for programs & services within assigned area of focus (aquatics, active living, general programs or special programs).
  • Evaluate program participation and attendance, effectiveness of personnel, and make recommendations for service improvements and efficiency.
  • Identify trends, demographics and new techniques to determine the recreational services needs of the community. Propose methods of improvement based on findings.
  • Work closely with local school boards, service clubs, conservation authorities, non-profit organizations and businesses to strengthen and maintain a positive cooperative working relationship.
  • Assume the lead role in negotiating, monitoring and evaluating community service agreements and partnerships as it relates to programs.
  • Ensure direct programming initiatives, programming partnerships, events, rentals and other uses are cohesively working together within each recreation facility.
  • Oversee site inspections of program space to ensure proper operation and compliance pertaining to safety regulations.
  • Approve marketing tools, materials and content for the seasonal Leisure Guide and website development for programs.
  • Strive to achieve HIGH FIVE accreditation and maintain accreditation on an annual basis.
  • Supports the implementation of corporate and community events. Provides staffing resources and logistical support for partnered events that are aligned with the recreation’s mandate.
  • Respond to emergencies and incidents managing critical care, response and follow-up with staff, volunteers, customers, management and emergency teams.

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking an experienced professional with a post-secondary degree or diploma in Recreation and Leisure Studies or closely related field or Certification(s) in change management, municipal administration, community development, HIGH FIVE®, Lifesaving Society certifications, Fitness instruction, Behaviour Management Systems, project management, quality assurance, leadership or other related qualifications are an asset. Our ideal candidate has a minimum 3 years related experience in an indoor or outdoor recreation setting, minimum of 2 years at the supervisory level.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of recreation service delivery, business planning, budget management and municipal administration. We are seeking an individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to ensure suitable agreements, decisions are reached.

The successful candidate for this position will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).

This position offers a salary range of $110,308.29 to $137,885.36- plus a competitive benefit package.
