Job Title: Terrain Stability Specialist (Geotechnical) Job Location: Vancouver / Kelowna, B.C. Number of Positions Available: 1
DMC, an employeeowned engineering consulting firm in BC, is growing, and we’re looking for a Geotechnical Engineer or Geoscientist with strong experience in forestry terrain stability assessment and field investigations to help us keep the momentum moving. Our expanding Geotechnical Group works across British Columbia, delivering practical, high quality engineering grounded in strong fundamentals and a culture built on collaboration, and grounded problem solving. We’re seeking a technically strong professional with demonstrated experience in terrain stability analysis, forestry road assessments, landslide hazard evaluation, and geotechnical field work. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in remote environments, coordinating field programs, interpreting geomorphology, and producing clear precise technical deliverables in accordance with best industry practice. Strong communication skills, practical judgment, and the ability to work smoothly with clients, regulators, and multidisciplinary teams are essential. DMC supports a wide range of projects, including public infrastructure, commercial and industrial structures, dams, residential development, and natural resource projects. Our clients include provincial agencies, municipalities, First Nation communities, forestry licensees, architects, developers, and contractors throughout BC. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Geological, Geotechnical, Civil Engineering, or Earth Sciences (minimum)
- Minimum 3 years of experience in terrain stability assessment, geomorphology, or natural hazard evaluation
- Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) in BC
- Strong technical writing skills with the ability to produce clear, defensible terrain stability reports
- Demonstrated experience conducting fieldwork in remote or rugged terrain, including terrain classification and landslide hazard assessments
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently with minimal supervision
- Previous project coordination or project management experience
- Proficient with GIS‑based mapping tools and standard office software
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent) with a clean driving record
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
- Strong work ethic with a commitment to high‑quality, practical engineering
- Effective communicator with excellent oral and written skills Supplementary Skills:
- Experience conducting terrain stability assessments, forestry road inspections, and landslide hazard evaluations
- Familiarity with terrain stability and geomorphology assessment tools (e.g., GIS‑based terrain mapping, LiDAR interpretation, aerial photo analysis, field terrain classification methods)
- Background in materials testing, construction inspection, and geotechnical field programs
- Experience working in remote or rugged terrain, including helicopter‑supported fieldwork
