About the role

Our Story:

At COSMO, we’re building a new generation of family-first tech. Our award-winning JrTrack line of kids smartwatches help thousands of families today stay safely connected with a watch-to-parent-app ecosystem built from the ground up. The family tech category is exploding today, and we’re leading the way.

About the Role:

We are seeking a thoughtful and strategic UX Strategist & Designer to help shape the user experience across COSMO’s connected product ecosystem—including our children’s smartwatch, mobile apps, and parent platform. In this role, you’ll focus on developing user personas, customer journeys, and experience strategies that align with the needs of kids and families. Your insights and frameworks will guide our product and visual design efforts, and you’ll collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Engineering to bring the vision to life.

While this is not a pure product design role, you’ll also contribute to UX/UI design work as needed—especially during early prototyping, usability testing, or when providing design guidance and support to our product designers.

Requirements Key Responsibilities:

  • UX Strategy & Research

  • Collaborate with marketing for the creation of personas, journey maps, and service blueprints across our connected experiences.

  • Define the UX strategy and information architecture for key product touchpoints, ensuring consistency across smartwatch, mobile, and web.

  • Synthesize user research to uncover behavioral insights, unmet needs, and opportunities to improve the customer experience.

  • Translate insights into clear, actionable frameworks that guide product and design decisions.

  • User Experience & Interface Design

  • Design thoughtful and engaging user experiences for kids and parents across the smartwatch and mobile app ecosystem.

  • Develop wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity visual designs that reflect the product vision and user needs.

  • Support development of intuitive UI components for small screens (wearables) and mobile apps.

  • Collaborate closely with the Product and Design teams to ensure your strategic inputs inform UI execution.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and QA teams to ensure designs are feasible and implemented to spec.

  • Work closely with the Director of Product and Brand/Marketing teams to maintain design consistency across all touchpoints.

  • Participate in design reviews and sprint planning to stay aligned with feature timelines and release goals.

  • Brand & Visual Identity

  • Contribute to and maintain a cohesive product design system and component library that supports the COSMO brand identity.

  • Create polished visual assets that reinforce brand values: safety, independence, and connection.

About You:

You’re a user-obsessed designer who balances creativity with usability. You’re excited by the challenge of designing for kids and families and understand the importance of simple, delightful, and safe interactions. You enjoy working cross-functionally, take pride in thoughtful design, and thrive in a fast-paced, purpose-driven startup environment.

Your Experience:

  • Experience: 3–5 years of experience as a UX/UI Designer, preferably working on consumer-facing digital products, mobile apps, or wearables.
  • Design Skills: Proficient in Figma (or similar), with a strong understanding of UX principles, interaction design, and mobile design patterns.
  • Research-Driven: Experience incorporating user research and usability testing into the design process.
  • Kid-Centric Mindset: Passionate about designing intuitive and engaging experiences for young users and their parents.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable working within cross-functional teams, sharing ideas early, and iterating quickly.
  • Visual Craftsmanship: Strong eye for visual detail, typography, color, and layout with sensitivity to accessibility and age-appropriateness.
  • Bonus: Familiarity with designing for wearable interfaces or small screens is a plus.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and benefits including 100% employer paid supplemental medical policy (Canada)
  • Remote working environment
  • An opportunity to make a significant impact in a fast-growing company
  • Generous PTO
  • Collaborative, creative, and supportive work environment
