Northern Lakes College has the following temporary available:

Instructor, Carpentry Program
Hourly Rate: $33.81 to $51.94 per hour
Location: High Level
January 5, 2026 to April 4, 2026

Qualifications:

  • An Alberta or Red Seal Journeyperson Carpenter Certificate is required;
  • Journeyperson Certificate as a Carpenter with a minimum of 3 years’ experience;
  • Experience teaching or mentoring adults;
  • Criminal record check vulnerable sector;
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license; and
  • A combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Asset:

  • Experience teaching secondary students;
  • Experience in the field of trades or industry;
  • Experience teaching adults; and
  • Experience teaching in indigenous or remote communities.

Nature and Scope of Work

Reporting to the Chair, Trades and Resource Technology, the Instructor, Carpentry Program is responsible for planning, preparing, and delivery of instruction and evaluation of learners for apprenticeship, pre-employment, and dual credit programming. Both theory and lab instruction will be offered via face to face delivery. This position also includes liaising with community, government and industry representatives and working with other College departments as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide instruction to students in a classroom and/or lab setting;

  • Foster and maintain a positive and effective learning environment;

  • Plan and prepare for instruction, including program development;

  • Delivery of instruction, addressing various learning styles and needs;

  • Evaluate and report on student progress;

  • Liaison with industry, government and community representative as required;

  • Work with other College departments to facilitate learner success;

  • Monitor classroom supplies and tools inventory; and

  • Perform administrative tasks:

    • Track student attendance & interventions
    • Submit reports and forms as required
    • Maintain confidentiality and security of student information

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in computer skills;
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills;
  • Self-directed problem-solving and decision-making skills;
  • Knowledge of Alberta’s apprenticeship system; and
  • Other skills may be required.

This position is covered under the Collective Agreement between Northern Lakes College and the Faculty Association of Northern Lakes College.
