About the role

The Energy & Asset Coordinator position will be located in Burnaby, BC supporting a large multi-year facilities management contract with BC Hydro. The role will be based at the client’s Edmonds office location and reports directly to the Energy and Sustainability Manager.

The Energy & Asset Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the planning and execution of energy, sustainability, and capital planning initiatives across client facilities. This position is responsible for managing various phases of project delivery—from analyzing utility data and conducting site assessments to support the development of business cases and implementation of energy efficiency, decarbonization, and capital improvement projects.

The Coordinator will also prepare detailed reports and presentations, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and ensure that industry best practices and standards are met. Strong communication and analytical skills are essential to foster long-term client relationships and drive measurable environmental impact.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To The Following

  • Input, and review utilities data (energy, water, sewer and waste).
  • Analyze utility bills, and GHG emissions and energy data to detect anomalies or trends.
  • Conduct energy audits and consumption assessments.
  • Manage/support assigned facilities energy or sustainability projects including estimating energy and GHG savings, measuring and reporting of key performance indicators and benchmarks.
  • Prepare business reports, memos, business cases and presentations for the client to identify capital projects, including energy efficiency, and decarbonization projects.
  • Support the development and update of energy and sustainability management plans.
  • Conduct site visits to verify the condition of building assets to support capital planning.
  • Support the development of an annual asset management plan for the client.
  • Serve as a key team member in updating the asset inventory.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture or Sustainability (or related field) is required.
  • A graduate degree would be an asset (such as a Masters in sustainability and planning, BCIT SEMAC certificate, UBC Masters in Clean Energy, Douglas PEAK/Buildings certificate).

Work Experience Requirements

  • 2–3 years of experience in energy management, asset management or related fields.
  • Experience in facilities management, utilities, or public sector projects is an asset

Skills, Abilities, And Other Requirements

  • Knowledge with Buildings, Building Construction, Building Systems, and Sustainability is required.
  • Working knowledge of energy conservation measures in buildings, building control systems, building envelope design would be an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Energy Management Software/EnergyStar Portfolio Manager would be an asset.
  • Experience with asset planning would be an asset.
  • Strong writing abilities and presentation skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications and database skills.
  • Traveling to sites across the province is essential.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Drivers' License and clean abstract.

The expected salary range for this role is between $75,000-$85,000 per year. The starting salary will be based on several factors such as the successful candidate’s qualifications, including but not limited to education and experience. Salary is one component of Black & McDonald’s total rewards package.
