About the role

Your Opportunity:

The Health Link Instructor is an in-scope position reporting to the Health Link Manager, Learning and Development. The educator is responsible and accountable for provincial staff learning and development activities. This role supports the Health Link (HL) multidisciplinary teletriage clinical and clinical support staff across all program areas and business units to acquire knowledge, apply required skills and meet performance standards. The educator has a leadership role in this advanced practice area to design, deliver and evaluate HL staff education and professional development programs and initiatives. The Health Link Instructor will monitor trends in clinical teletriage practice and assess relevance to either reinforce or change practice.

Working independently, the incumbent must have recent proven in-depth experience in facilitating adult learning and a clear understanding of the unique challenges of teletriage practice in order to develop and deliver evidence-based educational programs that contribute to continuous improvement in HL services. Effective leadership and team collaboration are essential to this role. Excellent critical thinking, clinical judgement, strong organizational skills, and experience in managing competing priorities, as well as interpersonal and conflict management skills are required for this role. The Health Link Instructor must be self-directed, self-motivated, flexible, and adaptable as they are expected to be able to counsel, coach, and mentor HL staff.

Description:

As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator in support of both nursing staff and the multi-disciplinary clinical team. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must be a registered nurse with a baccalaureate degree (or the equivalent in education and experience) in good standing with CRNA. The incumbent must have at least 2 years of teletriage nurse experience within the last 5 years, with proven expertise using Schmitt Thompson guidelines. Must have recent experience within the last 2 years working in Connect Care. The instructor must be able to support staff during times of transition with a solid understanding of and recent experience applying ADKAR principles. Must be able to demonstrate current knowledge and ability to apply adult learning principles, concepts and practices with experience and proficiency at multiple teaching methodologies including e-learning, lecture, interactive learning and simulation. Well-developed and creative verbal and written communication skills are required. Must have solutions oriented problem-solving and analytical skills with a proven ability to apply quality improvement tools and processes. Advanced computer skill and knowledge in Microsoft Office® products (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint) is required, including experience in building, formatting and editing written material. Must also be able to maintain staff development information using the appropriate software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters in Nursing.
  • Experience within the last 2 years as Educator.
  • Advanced knowledge of protocols, policies, standards and techniques for contact centre practice and professional practice is preferred.
  • Advanced skill in creating education using online learning platforms is an asset.
