Your Opportunity
We are seeking a Junior Environmental Technician/Technologist to work with our Environmental Site Investigation and Remediation (SIR) practice in our Waterloo, Markham, Mississauga, or Hamilton offices. The Junior Environmental Site Technician/Technologist will complete field work to support SIR projects across Ontario.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Promote a strong health and safety culture and actively participate in Stantec’s Health and Safety Program.
- Create and lead a positive safety culture on all projects.
- Work with Project Managers and intermediate staff to execute field scopes of work with Stantec staff and subcontractors.
- Complete SIR field tasks including but not limited to, Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), remediation programs, elevation surveying, and groundwater monitoring & sampling.
- Collaborate with site supervisors and subcontractors to efficiently execute SIR field programs.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Dedicated to working safely within established procedures and protocols.
- Adaptability, organization, critical thinking, self-motivation, a keen willingness to learn, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to identify issues in the field while working with senior staff to develop solutions.
- Proficiency with standard productivity software including all MSOffice products.
- Additional skills such as current First Aid training, water and soils sampling, mechanical aptitude and experience in the field of Environmental Science or Engineering are assets but are not required.
- Able to obtain federal reliability security clearance.
- Passion for working in an outdoor environment.
- Able to travel to urban and remote locations via air or ground transportation and work up to 12 hours per day.
- Able to travel and mobilize to sites on minimal notice.
- Able to work up to 100% in the field during peak field season, including out of town work and overnight stays in a hotel setting.
Education and Experience
- A technical school diploma/certificate or an associate's degree or in environmental engineering, geology, hydrogeology, environmental science, or related field.
- A minimum of two years consulting or industry experience.
- Experience working in outdoor environments.
This position will involve a primarily field work with occasional work in office. Fieldwork may include travel (road or air) and exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Evening and weekend work may be required. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods.
