The National Manager of Development will lead the strategy, growth, and execution of a comprehensive fundraising program focused on building lasting donor relationships and expanding financial support. This leadership role oversees diverse fundraising portfolios, including membership, major gifts, mid-level giving, and planned giving initiatives. You will guide a high-performing remote team, fostering collaboration, trust, and a culture of excellence. The position combines strategic planning, relationship management, team leadership, and data-driven decision-making to achieve ambitious fundraising goals. Working closely with internal teams and senior leaders, you will help strengthen donor engagement and advance meaningful conservation-focused initiatives. Accountabilities: The National Manager of Development is responsible for leading fundraising growth initiatives, managing a national development team, and building sustainable donor relationships. This role requires strategic vision, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to translate fundraising goals into measurable outcomes. Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive fundraising strategy covering membership, mid-level giving, major gifts, and planned giving programs. Build, mentor, and empower a high-performing remote fundraising team through effective leadership, collaboration, and professional development. Establish fundraising metrics, goals, reporting frameworks, and performance tracking processes to support informed decision-making. Develop and maintain a strong donor pipeline focused on long-term relationship building and increased philanthropic engagement. Guide the implementation of donor-centric fundraising plans aligned with organizational priorities and mission objectives. Serve as a strategic resource and advisor on fundraising practices, donor relationships, stewardship, and development initiatives across teams. Collaborate with operations, finance, sustainability, conservation, and communications teams to increase fundraising revenue and strengthen organizational impact. Partner with senior development leaders to identify opportunities for donor acquisition, retention, and portfolio growth. Monitor philanthropic trends, competitive initiatives, and industry best practices to continuously improve fundraising approaches. Prepare and present fundraising reports, updates, and recommendations for senior leadership and governance groups. Manage annual operating budgets related to development and planned giving activities. Support effective donor recognition, stewardship, and engagement strategies to strengthen current and future relationships. Requirements: The ideal candidate is an experienced fundraising leader with a strong track record in donor development, team management, and strategic growth. Success in this role requires expertise in fundraising practices, relationship building, analytics, and leading distributed teams. Diploma or degree in business, marketing, fundraising, nonprofit management, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in fund development, donor stewardship, and fundraising strategy execution. Proven success achieving fundraising results and developing meaningful donor relationships. Minimum of 5 years of experience managing teams, with demonstrated ability to motivate, coach, mentor, and empower employees. Experience managing national-level donor relationships and developing long-term philanthropic partnerships. Strong knowledge of professional fundraising practices, including major gifts, planned giving, donor stewardship, and pipeline development. Experience using CRM technology and fundraising data to support strategy and decision-making. Ability to create compelling cases for support that align donor interests with organizational goals. Strong analytical, strategic planning, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Ability to identify opportunities, assess risks, and make sound donor-focused decisions. Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills. Experience expanding contributor networks across individual and corporate giving channels. Postgraduate fundraising credentials or CFRE designation are considered an asset. Ability and willingness to travel occasionally, including some evening or weekend commitments. Bilingual English and French communication skills are considered a strong asset. Benefits: Starting salary of approximately $119,300 CAD, based on experience, education, and qualifications. Full-time permanent position with a 35-hour work week. Remote or hybrid work flexibility from any office location across Canada. Comprehensive compensation and benefits package.
