The Peer Specialist draws on their own skills and experiences as a consumer of Mental Health Services and with personal experience and insight into the impacts of gender-based violence to provide peer-based support, advocacy and non-clinical counselling services to clients of the Community Mental Health Program. The Peer Specialist functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team that provides services to clients who have experienced gender-based violence (GBV) enabling them to maintain a level of optimal functioning and to achieve their vocational goals.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum two (2) year Post Secondary School Diploma in Social Service Work
- Minimum two (2) years of experience working in a mental health program
- Personal experience and insight into the impacts of gender-based violence, with the ability to draw on this experience in a supportive, non-judgmental and empowering way
- Experience working in a counseling capacity or in a community mental health program setting or related field(s)
- Experience working with Community Advisory Committees and volunteers
- Experience living and/or working in the Mental Health System or with individuals who have experienced gender-based violence
- Valid G Driver’s License (or equivalent)
- Has an available, safe vehicle, and clean driver’s license record three (3) years prior to date of hire
- Carries appropriate automobile liability insurance of no less than $2,000,000
- Experience in a team-oriented environment an asset
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of Renfrew County
- Proficiency in the use of computer applications and software programs
- Ability to function with groups of clients as well as individuals
- Embodies the LEAN ideology by actively and continually seeking opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Must have demonstrated ability to meet the attendance standards of the Hospital
- Bilingualism preferred (French/English)
