About the role

The Township of Wellesley Recreation Department will be accepting applications for student positions as an Arena Building Attendant (earliest start date September 14th, 2026, completion date May 30th) based on availability, weather, and workload. This is a non-unionized position reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, performing various tasks in conjunction with full-time and contract staff.

This position is responsible for duties related to, but not limited to, horticultural and maintenance operations on the Township of Wellesley properties.

Available Positions: Fifteen (15) positions available.

Duties Will Include

This position is responsible for assisting in the duties related to, but not limited to, janitorial and maintenance operations on the Township of Wellesley Arenas. Emptying garbage cans, litter pickup; and other building cleaning tasks assigned by the Facility Operator on duty. Operate sound system for music and announcements. Move nets and peg them as required. Responsible for handing out dressing room keys to user groups and collecting them as needed. Apply safety precautions and procedures in conformance with Township policies and procedures. Work as a Public Skate Cruiser during public skating events. Shovel snow from walkways, entrances and ice surface. Follow Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). To perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Requirements

Ability to work evenings and weekends. Ability to skate. Ability to operate small hand tools and cleaning equipment. Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act is an asset. First Aid Certification preferred. Ability to work independently and to read written direction from manuals, policies and procedures and safety data sheets (SDS). Previous municipal work experience is an asset.

Working Conditions

Work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and stooping. Ability to lift, handle and carry equipment, supplies and materials weighting up to 25 kg. Exposed to safe levels of seasonal elements such as cold, wind, snow, rain, dust, odours, and noise.

Hours of work: Up to 24 hours per week, will include hours in the Evenings and on Saturdays and Sundays.

Compensation: $16.60/ hour for students, $17.95/ hour for non-students
