About the Role
Bethany is seeking an energetic and customer-focused Maintenance Worker I to join our team. Under the leadership of the Maintenance Supervisor and as part of a team of rotating operators, you will be responsible to ensure the building and grounds are secured for the safety of residents, families and staff by adhering to health and safety practices and procedures.
What You Will Do
- Repair and maintain hardware, fixtures, furnishings, carpet and flooring as required
- Ensures that all outdoor greenspace is maintained
- Responds to emergency situations such as fire, power outage, or water damage in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Responds to routine inquiries from residents and families regarding maintenance issues
- Assists with general maintenance requests and moves furniture as required
- Submit written reports of action taken when responding to situations with residents, building and system changes
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of all occupational health and safety and emergency preparedness and response policies and procedures and resident safety as would be impacted by the Maintenance Department
- Perform minor plumbing and equipment repairs
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in surface preparation and painting, carpentry, minor electrical work, plumbing, and heating systems including boilers. An interest in pursuing a Power Engineering apprenticeship is considered an asset.
What You Will Bring
- Grade 12 education or recognized equivalent
- 1 year maintenance experience, preferably in a hospital or large facility environment
- Able to work effectively in a physically and mentally demanding environment
- Must demonstrate an acceptable level of reading, writing, and comprehension of English language skills.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license
- Proven ability to organize and prioritize various demands
- Must have a working knowledge of fire codes, building codes, and general safety regulations
- On call availability, Flexibility for reallocation to different sites as needed
