Job Summary

The Water Distribution Operator will be responsible for supporting the operation of the Water Distribution Systems and associated pumping stations and transmission water mains to meet Provincial legislations and Regional standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitors process control and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems to manage all water distribution processes.
  • Performs daily chemical dosage tests for treatment and process.
  • Control and strictly adheres to safe handling of treatment chemicals associated with the water industry.
  • Performs and coordinates repairs, replacements, installations and maintenance of water system and related equipment.
  • Performs water distribution system regulatory sampling.
  • Assists Maintenance staff in daily operations.
  • Performs basic pipefitting.
  • Responds to inquiries, complaints and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Compiles information for reports to management and the MECP.
  • Completes general housekeeping within water distribution facilities.
  • Operates vehicles and equipment when required.
  • Supports other functions within the Public Works department as required.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Secondary School Diploma and Operator-in-Training certification/license.
  • Possess and maintain Ministry of Environment (MECP) operator licensing certification for Water Distribution Systems.
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience with the application of related legislation and acts (ex. Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Water Regulation Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Environmental Protection Act).
  • An aptitude for computers is required in order to effectively monitor and control distribution processes using automatic controls and the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) System.

  • Incumbent will be required to serve on standby and respond to after hour callouts, perform assigned duties in inclement weather and work in confined spaces, as specified by Public Works Operations Practices.

  • The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, by the first day of employment.
  • The incumbent will be required to drive a Regional vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license and a driver’s abstract, by their first day of employment.
