About the role

What’s most important to you? A great place to work? A stable, successful company? Or making a meaningful impact?

How about all of the above?

We are a B2B SaaS scale-up company helping small businesses outcompete the giants; we improve their inventory management (an underappreciated problem!) with our powerful yet easy-to-use software and hardware.

We’ve been stable, bootstrapped and successful since 2007. We started by dominating the desktop inventory software market with over a million downloads, transitioned to the cloud and mobile since 2017, and continue to build on and modernize this base with lovingly-designed improvements and new products.

We do our absolute best to show respect and compassion to customers, employees, and job applicants, and people tell us that Archon is an amazing place to work. You can of course check us out on Glassdoor, Deloitte Technology Fast 500, and our website.

We’ve got an amazing group of talented and friendly people here, and we’re looking for world-class talent, like you, to join us!

Hybrid work - one day/week in the office

We know that in the software industry, you can get most of your day-to-day work done outside of an office. We value the freedom and flexibility that comes from being able to work from home; in fact, we’ve been pioneers in mostly-working-from-home for over a decade, waaaay before it was cool.

We also believe that it’s important to be able to build real human connections (dare I say, friendships?) with your co-workers, and that there’s no substitute for in-person bonding time for this. These connections (friendships?) build trust and encourage open and honest conversations; they’re good for business AND good for well-being.

That’s why we will be requiring that employees work one day per week (typically) in our beautiful Toronto office, with this in-person time focused on team gatherings, monthly free lunches, and other activities that are best done in-person. Other days, you’re free to work from home, the office, or any productive environment.

Some of our job benefits

  • Competitive salary: $120,000 - $150,000 annually (depending on experience). We also offer annual performance-based variable incentives.
  • Health and dental benefits
  • Top-notch computers. We hate slow computers too!
  • $500 fitness benefit (for gym memberships, bicycles, FitBit, etc.)
  • Subsidized internet and phone plans
  • 3 weeks of vacation (increasing with tenure), plus 10 additional paid time off (PTO) days.
  • Make a difference: you'll be the 3rd product manager in our tight-knit company.

Job overview

As one of three product managers, you’ll work directly with a co-founder and lead major software development initiatives to help small businesses solve their inventory management problems. Your detail-oriented mind will analyze problems, brainstorm solutions, and discover potentially complex challenges. You’ll work with developers in figuring out the best solution, your drive for knowledge will help in qualitative and quantitative research, and your interpersonal skills will help in learning from customers, coordinating work, and presenting the solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the software team including developers, designers, QA, and other stakeholders to ensure that we’re both building the right thing, and building the thing right.
  • Do regular customer research and quantitative data analysis to deeply understand customer needs, wants, and workarounds, to ensure that we continually serve them better.
  • Collaborate with customer-facing teams for their input on how best to improve the software.
  • Do company-wide presentations to teach and motivate people about software changes.
  • Take projects from a rough description of requirements to validated, clearly documented working software.
  • Perform acceptance testing on software prototypes to ensure that things have been implemented according to plan (and partner with QA for deeper functional testing).
  • Monitor key metrics of software projects for feedback and opportunities for improvement.
  • Take input from multiple perspectives, generate ideas, evaluate tradeoffs, make decisions, and clearly communicate them.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a product manager in a B2B software company
  • Proven ability to regularly understand and communicate details in complex technical systems
  • Proven ability to organize large-scale technical plans
  • Proven ability to analyze and interpret data to make high-quality decisions
  • Proven ability to understand user experience problems in web or mobile applications and and propose improvements
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on listening
  • The drive to make things happen and push for change without being told

Nice to have (but not necessary)

  • Experience with small business inventory management

About Archon Systems

Software Development
51-200

Our journey started in 2007 with the first release of inFlow Inventory.

We've hit a lot of milestones since then—like making Canada's Top 100 small and medium-sized businesses and Profit 500 lists—but our mission is still the same: to build software that makes a practical difference in people's lives.

Our products should be easy and intuitive, but still offer powerful features to those who need them. And we obsess over design: from gut-level beauty to the tiniest details of how things should work.

We also believe that if you treat others well, they'll return the favour. So whenever we do something, we consider how our users will feel about it. We'll even refer customers to competitors if we feel ours won't fit their needs.

To accomplish all of this, we're building a company of great people who inspire each other to do their best work. We've left roles vacant if we can't find the perfect candidate, and we assume everyone on our team is good at what they do. This means we trust them to make decisions and keep "management" to a minimum.

We'd love to meet you!
