Overview Job Description The Jr. Accountant has an important role in the day-to-day operations of the Alberta housing teams. This position is responsible for cash (recording deposits, bank reconciliations), accounts receivable (entries, follow-up, reporting, and forecasting) and the audit of payables and sales transactions. Working with a team, this position assists in preparing and communicating the operating and financial results of the Division. Teamwork, maintenance of internal controls, and process efficiency are keys to this role.

Key Deliverables

  • Reconciles all divisional bank accounts on a weekly basis, which includes the appropriate cut-off requirements of quarter-end
  • Maintains accounts receivable, including posting entries and payments, reconciling, and ensuring follow-up of past due accounts
  • Maintains the accounts payable system, including reviewing coding, entering credit memos, and clearing old accounts
  • Maintains prepaid expenses and fixed assets, including posting entries, preparing reconciliations and writing off fully depreciated assets
  • Creates and posts journal entries
  • Posts sales and payouts
  • Prepares month-end, quarter-end and year-end working papers, including supporting financial and operational statements, and preliminary variance analysis
  • Prepares quarterly and year-end corporate schedules
  • Prepares weekly cash and accounts receivable reporting to Head Office and divisional staff
  • Prepares ad hoc analysis, as requested
  • Attends various department and interdepartmental meetings to obtain information for reporting and to provide information to other departments
  • Researches, track history, and forecasts the accounts receivable collections for monthly cash forecasting and annual budgeting processes
  • Assist in preparation of quarterly working papers and checklists for audit purposes
  • On a periodic basis, responsible for providing information (financial and process, written and verbal) to the applicable external auditor for testing and compliance analysis
  • Ensure personal and co-worker compliance to Limits of Authority Policy and SOX controls regarding AP, Revenue and Cash
  • Support special projects as assigned include contributing to one-time assignments, participating in software enhancements, historical project analysis, and sharing co-worker duties related to inventory, budgeting and accounting software inputs during periods of high volume or transition.

What You'll Bring

  • Currently enrolled or looking to enroll in the CPA program.
  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred along with a limited period of (1 - 3 years) relevant experience.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as within a team environment.
  • Experience in real estate industry would be an asset
